According to a foreign press site, a synopsis for Spider-Man: Far From Home has finally been revealed. Fans have been hungry for information on the sequel to the highly successful Spider-Man: Homecoming and the news of Jake Gyllenhaal’s involvement as infamous villain Mysterio has only built that anticipation.
The synopsis is as follows:
Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his friends go on summer holidays to Europe. However, the friends will hardly be able to rest — Peter will have to agree to help Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) uncover the mystery of creatures that cause natural disasters and destruction throughout the continent.
The synopsis comes soon after the film’s debut trailer reveal at Brazil’s CCXP convention this past weekend, which showed even more than the description gives us.
In the trailer, Peter’s friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) is sedated by Nick Fury himself in order to get to Spider-Man and recruit his help to fight the “Elementals”. These villains have been causing natural disasters throughout the continent and consist of sand, water, and fire. Because he left his Stark suit at home, Parker is supplied with the new stealth suit and must join forces with Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio (that’s right, it looks like Mysterio may not be the bad guy in this movie… at least not right away) to battle the Elementals.
Gyllenhaal commented on the film’s plot during the conference:
There are these threats to the world, the Elementals, elemental creatures. And Mysterio is someone who knows about them and wants to make sure that the world is safe from them… and Nick Fury asks him to come on and help because he’s the only one who really understands them. And then he teams up with the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and unfortunately has to make him become more than a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Though some have speculated that the Elementals will consist of classic Spidey villains like Sandman, Hydro-man, and Molten Man, but those rumors have been dispelled. Instead, the Elementals will be portrayed as a group of ancient mystical creatures that have resurfaced in the world to wreak havoc.
Though the trailer has not yet been released for public consumption online, reports point to a December 18th reveal date. Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5, 2019.
