Square Enix is a company whose name is tied with the JRPG genre. Owner of the ironically long lasting JRPG series, Final Fantasy. With Final Fantasy 15 in the works, you would assume that the producer of the most oversized video game swords would have their hands full.
Apparently not; the Square Enix Twitter feed has posted a mysterious image along with the promise of a three day interactive reveal via Twitch. Whatever is coming, it has been produced by one of the company’s western studios. This, at least, explains how Square Enix has juggled this new game alongside Final Fantasy 15.
What it doesn’t explain, is what sort of game this new arrival will be. The last non-Final Fantasy game Square Enix released was ‘Murdered: Soul Suspect’.
This 2014, adventure, stealth game wasn’t greeted with huge enthusiasm by critics. Airtight Games, the studio that made the game for Square, closed down one month after releasing it.
True story.
Of course, the difference with this new game is the fact that it’s being developed in-house by Square Enix. It is curious that the reveal would be announced with so little build up. Square Enix games tend to draw crowds at gaming trade shows. On the other hand, Ubisoft’s ‘Grow Home’ came out of nowhere and it’s amazing.
At the end of the day, we’ll just have to wait until the reveal and make our judgements then.
Not long to go.
