The next Battlefield game might be a while off, but the next Battlefront game is on the way. EA originally announced the game in May of 2016 and in their recent third quarter earnings call with investors, EA illuminated some new details on the title. The game which was not referred to as Battlefront 2, but rather, “the next Battlefront,” will include far more content than 2015’s Star Wars: Battlefront.

The next Battlefront will include a single player campaign. However whether this campaign will cover the events of the original trilogy, the new Star Wars films or an entirely unique narrative has not been stated. EA also stated that the game will span multiple eras as opposed to the original Battlefront that mostly covered material from the original three films. The fact that we could see multiple eras may mean that the game’s narrative covers a tale that spans the clone wars all the way to the events of The Last Jedi, similar to the campaign of the original Star Wars: Battlefront 2. The title being worked on by EA Motive, DICE and Criterion will also include more characters and heroes.

The next Battlefront game is scheduled to release in the holiday season of 2017. EA also has their usual array of sports games and Mass Effect Andromeda releasing in 2017. However, one game that we won’t be seeing in 2017 is Skate 4. In the exact same earnings call, EA announced that Skate 4 is not presently in development. Perhaps we’ll find out more details on the next Battlefront game and what else EA has planned for the year at E3.
