Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection Launch Comes To a Screeching Halt

The force isn’t with this game.

This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

It has become a norm nowadays that every game coming out with online functionality is busted at launch, and that trend does not stop with the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection. Releasing with a host of in-game glitches, major server connectivity issues, and game-breaking crashes, Star Wars fans are not happy with the remaster.

Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection has gotten mostly bad reviews on Steam, and they don’t seem to be slowing down. Fans have taken to Reddit, X/Twitter, and other socials with their valid criticism of the state of the game. The people who have actually enjoyed the game so far add up to 20% of total players, a far cry from a successful launch.

Although this may seem like an overreaction, and expecting too much from the developers, Aspyr. But that isn’t the case, because developer complacency is obvious. When the game launched, it only had 3 servers to accommodate the entire player base. This means that even though over 20,000 people were playing, under 200 were able to get into specific modes due to the restriction.

When the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection was initially announced, fans were excited to get back into the classic games with all the bonus content with modern bells and whistles. Aspyr promised online functionality with cross-play between platforms as well. That couldn’t be further from what happened when more servers went online.

After launching with a mere 3 servers, the developers got more server space online to support the massive influx of players. Turns out, this made everything even worse. Player connectivity was nearly unusable for most people, and the performance issues were bad enough for many fans to just opt for a refund instead of waiting for updates.

The classic Battlefront games from 2004 and 2005 were known for having massive 64-player battles that put you in the shoes of stormtroopers. Hopefully, Aspyr can patch things up sooner rather than later before even more fans start getting refunds.
