Last year, Lenovo and Disney stated selling augmented reality lightsaber kits and now you can play duels with your friends. Star Wars: Jedi Challenges got a free update called ‘Lightsaber Versus Mode’ which adds local mutliplayer to the previously single-player game.

Versus Mode requires a lot of gadgets tho. To play the mode it is required to have two of the $199 Lenovo Mirage AR systems: two phone-powered Mirage headsets; two lightsaber controllers; and two light-up tracking beacons, each set to a different colour. Once this is all done, players stand a few feet a part and the headset will then project a lightsaber beam over each others controllers. However, the system does not let you freestyle the attacks, but instead it generates a battle using elements from the single-player mode.

Lenovo posted more information on the game saying:“In Lightsaber Versus Mode, players are guided by visual cues indicating when and where to block, dodge, and strike, as players face off, the battle increases in difficulty until one player claims victory.”

This system is in place to stop players from breaking the game and create matches that last for a longer amount of time. Kyle Laughlin, Senior Vice President of  Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media, said the company is planning on not stopping there and will continue improving  Star Wars: Jedi Challenge. He said:

“Our goal here is to extend Star Wars experiences in completely new and different ways for fans — Star Wars: Jedi Challenges does exactly that. The product’s global success has encouraged us to give players even more authentic Star Wars moments, and we look forward to continuing to improve and expand the gameplay.”
