Ever wanted to meet Darth Vader face-to-face? Well, it appears you may have your chance. Vader Immortal is a Star Wars VR series being developed by ILMxLAB and Oculus.
The three-part virtual reality series was announced at Facebook’s Oculus Connect 5 and is due for release Spring 2019. As the teaser shows, the Dark Side is especially strong with this one – albeit in a good way.

What little can be said of the game at this point is that the visuals are gorgeous. Both Darth Vader and his surroundings at Mustafar are rendered beautifully here.
But when is the game set? Well, the first part will take place between Episode III and IV of the Star Wars mythos. It’s due to explore a “yet untold” story in the Star Wars universe.
According to Oculus head of experience Colum Slevin, the game “captures the ultimate wish fulfillment”, teasing that players can hear Vader breathing behind them and that they will wield a lightsaber with their own hands.
On-stage, Vicki Dobbs Beck, the executive in charge of ILMxLAB, enthused about the game, stating the mission of the developers working on the ambitious title:
[These] stories … cross the boundaries of home and location, and that deepen our experiences with beloved characters in a galaxy far, far away — and beyond. Our mission at ILMxLAB is to have fans step inside our stories, and Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series represents a significant step forward in that ongoing quest. Our friends at Oculus share ILMxLAB’s ambition to bring compelling immersive narratives to life, and using Oculus’ hardware, we will invite fans to experience Darth Vader as never before.
News of the game follows previous Star Wars VR effort, Droid Repair Bay. This game put Oculus users in the midst of a battle against the First Order on General Leia’s ship.
