Despite being released for only a short amount of time, players have already found exploits in the physics of Super Mario Bros Wonder. Most games generally take a little bit for players to start breaking a new release. With Wonder, it seems the fan base is already looking for every advantage they can get. This current trick, though starting a bit small, should lead to bigger things in the future. It shouldn’t be long before we start seeing even cooler and bigger tricks in the first Super Mario Bros Wonder speedruns. Until then, here’s an interesting exploit that a fan has already found while playing Super Mario Bros Wonder.
Player Discovers Secret Use of Parachute Cap
Recently, a player posted to Reddit sharing an exploit that they found in-game. By equipping the Parachute Cap Badge and wall jumping, this player found something interesting. If you quickly slow-fall towards the wall, you can actually gain a little bit of height on the wall. This allows you to climb a sheer, vertical surface without the use of something like the Wall Climb Badge. Additionally, that badge only allows for one jump while this Super Mario Bros Wonder exploit allows you to climb up any surface completely. The only downside is that this glitch is a bit hard to pull off and takes a long time compared to even playing the game normally.
Though the applications for this Super Mario Bros Wonder exploit are limited so far, as the game continues to gain traction, more scenarios that use this technique should become apparent. This is especially true when the first Super Mario Bros Wonder speedruns start to surface. Already, some members of the speedrunning community are publishing their initial findings and trial runs for the game. These ideas are far from being perfectly refined. Despite this, the dedication from the community towards Wonder is always great to see.
This Super Mario Bros Wonder Exploit May Not Be Super Useful
Despite how interesting this Super Mario Bros Wonder exploit may look, the community’s reaction is a bit lukewarm towards it. Looking at its overall applications, it’s easy to see just how limited something like this can be. Even when trying it out in the game myself, I struggled to find a place where this movement option would be considered useful. In fact, after confirming that using this exploit does work, I have yet to find another place where I would think to use it. With that being said, there are some uses potential uses for this exploit. It will take a little more time with Super Mario Bros Wonder to figure out where we can use it.
In the end, not every exploit discovered in a new game is going to lead to breakthroughs in things like speedrunning and gameplay techniques. However, finding these tiny details is a great way to bring unique experiences to the community. In a way, something like this has a way of bringing a community together. Often, this leads to players flocking to test out and theorize applications for it. Though these efforts may not yield anything, it’s still fun to at least try. Plus, it helps give you a new way of playing an amazing game.
