Sydney Sweeney has broken her silence after a Hollywood producer called her ugly and flat-out stated that she “can’t act.” The 26-year-old actress wound up front-page news earlier this week as Father of the Bride producer Carol Baum slammed her, even telling students she was lecturing that she doesn’t understand why Sydney is such a big deal.
After a few days of silence, Sydney delivered a statement via her rep, telling The Daily Mail that she was saddened to see a woman attacking another woman. Fans have since rallied around The White Lotus star, who is known for both her Emmy-winning accolades and her beauty.
Sydney Sweeney Under Attack From Hollywood Producer
Making global headlines for her statement, Carol said:
“She’s not pretty, she can’t act. There’s an actress who everybody loves now – Sydney Sweeney. I don’t get Sydney Sweeney.”
Speaking to her students as she referenced Sydney’s Anything But You movie, Carol continued: “I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeney’s movie because I wanted to watch it. I wanted to know who she is and why everybody’s talking about her. I watched this unwatchable movie – sorry to people who love this movie – [this] romantic comedy where they hate each other.” Querying Sydney’s popularity, she further asked: “I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?”
Sweeney Fires Back
In her response, Sydney said:
“How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman.” The Euphoria actress, who counts Alexandra Daddario as a costar, continued: “If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful.” The Miu Miu ambassador concluded that “to unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms Baum’s character.”
Sydney has risen fast in the Hollywood space and is a two-time Emmy Award winner. The actress spans TV and movies and has a significant presence on Instagram, where she boasts over 19 million followers.
Just this week, Sydney expanded her endorsement grip as she debuted her campaign for Armani Beauty. She joins the list of stars fronting famous brands and is also signed to Laneige Beauty.
The Daily Mail‘s report sparked a wave of comments. While some supported Sweeney, others felt that Baum had the right to express her opinion, regardless of the offense it might cause.
