A man in Memphis, Tennessee, has sparked outrage online after he was allegedly involved in an incident in which he bit an infant’s face. Reports indicate that bystanders restrained him inside an establishment until authorities arrived.
According to News Channel 3, the man, identified as Jerry Stark, allegedly bit his 3-month-old infant son on the face. He then reportedly ran “erratically” through multiple locations. Reports also state that Stark was seen asking for help while holding the baby at several places he entered. At one point, he allegedly went into Memphis Wings and lay on the kitchen floor with the infant.
The suspect then reportedly held his son tightly, and witnesses said the baby began turning blue. Bystanders attempted to intervene in order to help the infant, and the man then bit the child’s cheek. Eventually, those present were able to separate the baby from the suspect and contacted law enforcement.
According to the publication, Stark reportedly told officers that his own family was trying to kill him. In contrast, the baby’s mother alleged that Stark had pushed her out of a moving vehicle before driving away with their son.
The baby was later taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, with reports indicating the injury was not considered critical. The father has since been taken into custody and is facing charges of domestic assault causing bodily harm.
A video showed the aftermath of the incident, with several bystanders holding the suspect inside an establishment. In the footage, they kept a door closed while he appeared to push against it. As the cameraman recorded, he can be heard asking in disbelief, “Why the [expletive] you do that to the baby, man?”
At one point, one of the individuals holding the suspect inside threatened to attack him if he tried to leave. The video then showed several National Guard members arriving as the bystanders backed away from the door to give them space. The footage ended before showing the suspect being formally taken into custody by authorities. Stark is now expected to appear before a judge on Monday.
