A video was reposted to Texas Representative Brandon Gill’s X page that comments on a video posted to the site back in April by congressional correspondent Bill Melugin. The video allegedly features several thousand Haitian people crossing the border in the Rio Grande in Del Rio, Texas, in 2021.

Much of the Representative’s opinions are strictly conservative and primarily focus on issues such as mass deportations and the restriction of Islamic immigration. Considering the video’s age and lack of additional context, viewers were split between those who feel that the Representative is lying to them and those who support his opinion.

The images of illegal third-world migrants storming over the borders of Spain, while their leftist government does nothing about it, are completely insane.

Oh, wait– this was America's southern border the last time the Democrat Party was in power. pic.twitter.com/0DUS5IxTRi

The video is a repost from Fox News’ congressional correspondent Bill Melugin’s post from April 16, 2026. In it, he writes, “I shot this video while on a boat in the Rio Grande in Del Rio, TX on 9/18/2021 as 15,000+ Haitians flooded across the border illegally and set up a camp underneath the international bridge. Mayorkas later admitted 12,000+ of them were released into the U.S.“

The incident was partly due to conditions in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake, forcing some Haitians to leave the country altogether. Some people who traveled to the United States this way had been traveling through more than 11 countries for more than four years to seek asylum.

Representative Gill used a different caption for his repost, instead writing, “The images of illegal third-world migrants storming over the borders of Spain, while their leftist government does nothing about it, are completely insane. Oh, wait– this was America’s southern border the last time the Democrat Party was in power.”

This week, many Haitian and Syrian immigrants lost protections after a June 25 US Supreme Court ruling allowing President Donald Trump to end Temporary Protected Status, a program that permits people from countries experiencing humanitarian crises to temporarily live and work in the United States.

Comments and Reactions Toward Brandon Gill’s Repost of Older Immigration Video

Despite comments being divided, various users accused Representative Brandon Gill pf spreading a fake video. One person wrote, “No one’s falling for this [expletive], Brandon. It was orchestrated and you’re part of it.“

Similarly, another user wrote, “You’re lying to the American people 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 . Can’t wait to vote you thieves out!” Others simply stated that the American people will know what to do come election time, with another user writing, “Its almost election time. You know what that means, time for Republicans to play the “brown people are coming” fear tactics again. Their policies suck, so they have to win with fear and hate. Pathetic beta males.”

Currently, the video is continuing to go viral on X, and more people are leaving their opinions and frustrations in the comments section below.
