A Texas homeless shelter employee is drawing attention online for the simple way he welcomed a woman facing an uncertain night: “I got you.”

The viral video from Dallas LIFE follows an employee as he checks in with a new resident named Cynthia, asks how her first night went, and makes sure she knows where to go for clothing and another night’s stay. But the brief interaction also offers a glimpse at what happens after someone walks through the doors of one of Dallas’ largest homeless shelters.

Texas’s Dallas Life Shelter showed a day in the life of an employee working within its sheltered walls in a wholesome TikTok video. He calls to check on a new entry named Cynthia, who is now living at Dallas Life.

The employee asks Cynthia how her first night went and whether she has any questions before confirming she is checked in for another night. He tells her she can return the next day for another ticket and reassures her, “I got you.”

He also explains how she can get a pass to access donated clothing, then ends the conversation with, “God bless you.”

What Happens After Check-In at Dallas LIFE

The interaction with Cynthia is only one part of the shelter’s intake process. Dallas LIFE says first-time residents receive their first three nights free. After that, residents can choose its $15-per-night Pay-to-Stay option or, if they qualify and have no income, participate in its free 10-month Homeless No More recovery program.

The shelter says its 100,000-square-foot facility can accommodate up to 500 men, women and children. Residents receive three meals each day, while donated clothing is available for everyday use and job interviews.

Dallas LIFE also offers counseling, medical services, and workforce development, with its longer-term program eventually helping participants pursue employment and affordable housing.

Viewers Focus on Two Words: “I Got You”

The employee’s reassurance particularly resonated with viewers. “‘I got you’ must be the most beautiful thing to hear when you are at rock bottom,” one person wrote.

Another viewer connected the interaction to their own experience: “I’ve been homeless before and it’s very dehumanizing. Thank you for treating them with love and respect!”

Others wanted to help. One person asked whether Dallas LIFE accepts donations or volunteers, prompting the shelter to provide information about how to get involved.

For Cynthia, the interaction shown in the video lasts only a few minutes: another night’s stay, information about clothing, and someone telling her, “I got you.”

Dallas LIFE says those immediate needs are only the beginning. Its services range from meals and shelter to counseling, health care, workforce development, and longer-term assistance to help residents eventually return to independent housing.
