A Texas TikToker faces backlash after making comments regarding disability. In the video, she comments on a clip of a lady talking about the alleged difficulty she has filling out paperwork for disability. In response, the woman questions the legitimacy of the complaints, a move that was not well received by many in the comments.

The clips show the lady describing having to jump through “hoops and hoops” just to do the paperwork. She states, “They make you do the work to get your medical records.” She also claims she is unable to work a normal job and the process feels like it takes the equivalent of working full time.

However, the Texas woman is skeptical of this, asking, “But you can set up a phone and click go?” She argues that the reason for the extensive paperwork is to prove a person is actually disabled. The woman argues, “It shouldn’t be that difficult to prove you’re disabled if you’re actually disabled, so I have a feeling you don’t really need it.”

The video ends with her suggesting, “I have a really good solution: get a job.” Her response has over 129,000 views, over 8,700 likes, and over 1,800 comments. It has come under fire for what one commenter calls “the most privileged take I’ve ever heard.” Meanwhile, others don’t understand her purpose for making the video, asking, “Why make this video aside from being a bully?” Another asks, “Is bullying a disabled person the trend now?”

Others are calling out her comparison of working a job to working a phone. One asks, “Did you just… compare having a job to a phone??” Another says, “Targeting people with disabilities is an interesting choice.” And another, “Megan finds out that recording a video for two minutes isn’t the same as working 9-5.”

Others have shared their own experiences with disability. One argues, “I’ve had patients on HOSPICE, and they are certified TERMINAL with 6 months or less to be ALIVE. They were denied.” Another states, “I have a friend who has to prove every couple of years….that she is still missing her leg.” One commenter states, “This is cruel, and I can tell you have never had to file for disability.”

The Texas woman has not responded to the backlash, nor has she removed the video.
