  • Honkai Star Rail: Best Team Comps
  • Builds by Characters

If you’re a veteran of HoYoverse games, you might already know how hard it is to choose among all its games’ characters. Every title this company launches features a fantastic cast of characters; Honkai Star Rail isn’t an exception. Even if you start the game with three characters, you’ll get much more as time passes. Knowing the best team comps in Honkai Star Rail is essential. Luckily for you, we’ve prepared a list of the best compositions for different parts of the game today.

Honkai Star Rail: Best Team Comps

(Updated on May 9, 2024 – Clarified information, added new teams, and replaced images)

For the best team comps in Honkai Star Rail, we’ll be dividing them for certain parts of the story and specific content. This means you’ll change teams once you reach a new planet or want to try the Simulated Universe or the Forgotten Hall. Without further ado, let’s get started with the first team composition:

Starter Team Comp

Before we delve into the juicy team compositions for the endgame, we should guide the new players on the right path with a simple yet effective team comp in Honkai Star Rail. Assuming you haven’t gone on a spending spree of Stellar Jades, you can form a somewhat balanced party with the free characters. Here are the ones we recommend:

CharacterRoleRecommended Build
Trailblazer (Physical)Splash DPSThe Physical Trailblazer is a great starting choice, as it offers consistent damage for the early-game fights, not so much for late-game activities. You can build them as a DPS at first.
March 7thTankMarch 7th is the best tank you can get during the early game. Many new tanks outshine them, but she has good FuA (follow-up attack) capabilities that can synergize with other team comps. Making her a full tank is ideal.
AstaSupportEven with its 4-star rarity, Asta is a great character to have in almost any party. She has great buffs that can increase a party member’s speed, as well as great AoE capabilities. Building her as a support is recommended.
Dan HengSingle-target DPSDan Heng will be your first single-target-focused DPS, and building him as such is recommended. He is useful until you get better Wind characters, such as Sampo or Blade.

Builds by Characters

We’ll jump straight into character-specific builds, or rather, ones that focus on a main character and need a few others to make them shine. This is something players prefer to do as they spend more time in the game. Ideally, it is always good to have a main character and build a team comp in Honkai Star Rail around them. Below, we’ll suggest some of the most popular teams we’ve seen lately.

Acheron’s Team

Acheron Team Composition

Acheron is undoubtedly one of the best DPS characters in Honkai Star Rail, followed closely by Jingliu. However, those who are fans of big numbers while also inflicting debuffs will love having this Raiden Mei look-a-like as a team leader. Here’s the team comp we recommend:

CharacterRoleRecommended Build
AcheronMain DPSAcheron shines as a main DPS in almost any team comp, assuming you have another Nihility character. With her ultimate working differently, you need to get her stacks up fast to trigger it. Furthermore, she has great break effect capabilities regardless of the enemy’s weaknesses.
PelaSupport/DebufferPela is the most useful 4-star character in the game due to her ability to reduce an enemy’s defense. Pair her with any other heavy-hitting party member, and she’ll be the ideal support in any team.
Silver WolfSupport/DebufferSilver Wolf will take the role of another Nihility character to boost Acheron’s capabilities and increase her stack rate. Furthermore, Silver Wolf can insert an enemy with a weakness of any element you have in your party, making her one of the best debuffers.
Fu XuanTank/Sustain/HealerIf you have the signature Light Cone, Fu Xuan acts as a tank and healer. If not, she can still take damage to the whole team and keep them alive while healing herself. Besides that, she can also synergize with Silver Wolf and provide Quantum Damage, assuming Silver implants a weakness of that type on an enemy.

Kafka’s DoT Team

The DoT type of gameplay remains a fan favorite through every new patch. However, the queen of DoTs and one that you mandatorily need to make this playstyle shine is Kafka. This Nihility character shines even further the more DoTs an enemy has. So, if you pair her with other characters that add damage over time, you just need to sit back and watch your foe’s HP bar deplete.

CharacterRoleRecommended Build
KafkaMain DPSKafka is your main DPS and will raze the battlefield if you have other party members who add DoT effects. It is important to build Kafka with the right items to make her skills do even more damage.
Black SwanSub DPSBlack Swan is a fantastic DPS for almost any team and synergizes perfectly with Kafka. Black Swan applies arcana stacks constantly, which are considered DoT. With this in mind, Kafka will do a lot of constant damage. Build her as a DPS.
Ruan MeiSupport/BufferRuan Mei is the best Harmony character of Honkai Star Rail 2.2 and one that fits any party composition. Her ability to extend an enemy’s break state, her RES PEN buffs, and more make her one of the best buffers.
HuohuoHealer/BufferHuohuo is a jack-of-all-trades. You have an excellent pure healer, cleanser, and even a battery for other party members. Build her as a pure healer with high HP, and she’ll keep everyone’s health and energy topped up.

Imbibitor Lunae’s Team

The 5-star version of Dan Heng, Imbibitor Lunae is still one of the best DPS we have in Honkai Star Rail, hence why we recommend this team comp. While he eats skills points faster than anyone else, the addition of Sparkle during Version 2.0 countered this. Here is the team we recommend for him:

CharacterRoleRecommended Build
Imbibitor LunaeMain DPSImbibitor will be the star of this team. You need to make him your primary DPS, have him use as many skill points as possible, and get his ultimate out soon. This happens easily, thanks to the other party members.
TingyunBufferDespite being a 4-star character, Tingyun is excellent at increasing a character’s damage and providing energy regeneration. Build her as a support.
SparkleSupport/BufferSparkle will be in charge of increasing the team’s overall skill points and giving Imbibitor better buffs.
LuochaHealerLuocha is also important due to its passive healing skills and good AoE damage. Build him as a healer.

Right now, these are the most common team comps for most activities in Honkai Star Rail, especially Memory of Chaos. However, if you want to check a few build options for Pure Fiction, we have a few recommendations, too. If you’d like the general ins and outs on how to make your own team, we also have a guide for that. And if you want to check future party compositions, remember to visit this article, as we’ll update it with new characters.
