Newcomers to the series might get overwhelmed when starting Monster Hunter Now. The game provides you with six unique weapons including a huge sword, a semi-auto rifle, and a katana. But which weapon is considered the best and which one works better in a particular situation? You don’t have to worry any longer. This Monster Hunter Now beginner’s guide will help you pick which weapons fit you best depending on how you play the game.
Monster Hunter Now: The Best Weapons To Use According to Your Playstyle
The Best Weapons for Dealing Big Damage in Monster Hunter Now
- Great Sword
- Hammer
If you like watching huge numbers pop up on screen then Great Sword and Hammer are the perfect choices. These two can unleash fast attacks by normal taps too, but their main method of damage comes from charge attacks. Tap and hold the screen until your Hunter’s body glows yellow or red, then release. It takes a bit of time but numbers don’t lie. Of course, that means positioning and timing are crucial when using these heavy weapons.
Although slow, these two weapons have a few tricks up their sleeves to mitigate their negative aspects. While charging an attack, a Great Sword user can do a Tackle by swiping forward. Tackle can be used to cancel between each charge state or tank through damage. If you get hit when performing a Tackle, the damage you receive will be reduced. On the other hand, Hammer users can dodge even while charging an attack. Sure, you lost your charge when dodging, but it’s better than getting hit and failing a hunt!
Fast and Furious Combo-heavy Weapons
- Sword and Shield
- Long Sword
Meanwhile, if you prefer cutting down monsters to pieces, then Sword and Shield and Long Sword are your friends. Just keep tapping your screen and watch the monster’s health bar go down fast. Be mindful of your target’s attack though, they can still hurt you.
Thankfully, aside from a flurry of damage, these two weapons are armed with other functionality as well. With Sword and Shield, you can block monsters’ attacks by holding your screen. Long Sword doesn’t have a shield for blocking, instead, it can parry through monsters’ moves. As long as you don’t get too greedy, you should be able to handle even the deadliest of Rathalos’ fireballs.
For that reason, these two also work best as the beginner’s weapon. Use them while you learn each monster’s attack patterns and weaknesses.
The Best Weapons for Elemental or Status Effect Build in Monster Hunter Now
- Sword and Shield
- Light Bowgun
- Bow
- Hammer
Do you enjoy seeing red damage numbers gushing out from a monster’s body? Do you like “supporting” your fellow Hunters by inflicting Paralysis and Poison? Then you will want to use fast-hitting weapons like the Sword and Shield and Bowgun.
In Monster Hunter, Elemental damage and Status build-up apply the same amount of damage on each strike. Making weapons that can dish out lots of hits faster is much more useful than slower ones. Let’s say that the Paralysis build-up is inflicted once you hit a monster eight times. Obviously, a Great Sword that has a longer attack animation takes more time to do so than a Sword and Shield.
Hammer also gets a special mention here because it’s the only blunt weapon in the game. You can easily inflict Stun/KO and incapacitate a monster if you keep aiming at the head.
The Best Weapons for Easier Monster Parts Targeting and Part Breaking in Monster Hunter Now
- Light Bowgun
- Bow
The Lock On Armor Skill can help you with attacking specific parts of a monster’s body. But, you can ditch the Skill and aim manually using ranged weapons thanks to the gyroscope feature. Gyroscope aiming can be activated or deactivated by pressing the phone icon on the top-right of your screen while in a hunt. Combined with proper Elemental damage and Partbreak Armor Skill, you should be able to easily farm materials this way.
Whichever weapon you choose, all of them can be used to beat even the toughest of Diablos. That’s all for now for the best weapons beginner’s guide in Monster Hunter Now. Stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for more Monster Hunter Now and other popular mobile game info.
