This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

We can discuss a few points here before we even dispense with the fanboying. No, Hideo Kojima and his Kojima Productions aren’t developing this remake. No, it isn’t being built on the Phantom Pain engine, nor is it trying to modernize the feel of the original dramatically. With those two caveats out of the way, what we CAN now do is gush over how incredible it was to see Snake Eater back in action and hear David Hayter’s classic take on Snake’s voice bloom on the battlefield once more.

METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER - Official Trailer #1 - Xbox Games Showcase 2024

Shown during the Xbox 2024 Games Showcase, the footage consisted of cinematics and gameplay from the early and midpoints of Snake’s jungle escapade. Stealth, shootouts, CQC, and big boss fights were on full display and have never looked better. The developers at Virtuos Studio are tackling this remake, so a lot has yet to be seen regarding the actual feel of the action, but this early look was just enough to make me giddy with anticipation. The trailer ends with our first glimpse of the legendary Soldier, Big Boss.

Sadly, the trailer did not mention an estimated release date, so for all we know, we might revisit Snake in 2026 at the earliest. However, whenever it comes, I consider myself ready to see how Snake Eater’s great-looking remake holds up to the classic original. Let’s just hope that whatever they do, they completely nail the original opening sequence and theme song.
