Love Island fans have noted the most heartbreaking couple breakups in the show’s history. Love Island is a British dating series that premiered on ITV2 on June 7, 2015. The show pits a group of men and women together with a series of challenges that allows them to keep swapping partners until they find the love of their life. Since the show premiered, most relationships have either been short-lived or failed to last enough to become long-term commitments. However, there are some relationships that fans felt would go the distance, and their demise was genuinely brutal to take. Here is a quick look at the top three picks according to the fans.
Siannise Fudge & Luke Trotman
Siannise Fudge and Luke Trotman melted the hardest of hearts with their captivating love story during the winter edition of Love Island in 2020. The latter was one of the original cast members of the show. However, after failed connections with Nas Majeed and Connagh (with a G) Howard, it looked like her time on the show would end without a spark. However, once bombshell Luke Trotman appeared on the show, things changed for good for Siannise.
The two took viewers on a real-life fairytale journey that saw Luke crown Siannise, his princess, with a handmade crown, possibly one of the best Love Island episodes ever. Although the duo lost out on first place to Paige Turley and Finn Tapp, they left the South African villa as one of the strongest couples. They further solidified their relationship as they had to move in together during the COVID-19 pandemic. After nearly two years together, the two broke up around November 2021. Neither of them gave any specific reason for the breakup, but the news left a lot of Love Island fans heartbroken.
Faye Winter and Teddy Soares
Love Island 2021 stars Teddy Soares and Faye Winter are another couple that left an impression on fans. The two had a similar journey to Siannise and Luke — with Faye being an OG girl and failing in her initial connections with Brad McClelland and then Liam Reardon. However, once Teddy entered the villa, the two immediately struck an instant connection. Although their love faced challenges during Casa Amor, they remained as a couple and went on to finish the season as one of the finalists.
Following their time on Love Island, the couple continued to flaunt their love for each other on social media and even moved in together; sadly, their romance seemed to have fizzled out in recent months, leading to rumors of a breakup. After nearly two years of dating, Faye recently confirmed their split via her Instagram stories. The news shocked fans, with many of them taking to Reddit to air their thoughts. One fan wrote:
“Faye and Teddy definitely the saddest for me. They were my faves.”
Another user agreed:
“It was like love had peaked with them (Love Island standards at least).”
Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran
Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran met during Love Island season 7. However, their love story is more turbulent than the previous two couples. Toby was part of the original lineup for the season and was already coupled up with Kaz Kamwi when Chloe got introduced to the Love Island; Toby immediately turned his attention toward the new girl, and the pair soon started a romance. However, the lovebirds endured a rocky romance after Toby’s still flocked with Abigail Rawlings and Mary Bedford — he even returned from Casa Amor with Mary. Surprisingly, Toby and Chloe found their way back to each other and even finished the season as runners-up to Millie Court and Liam Reardon. The couple added more gloss to the finals as Toby officially asked Chloe to be his girlfriend during a passionate declaration.
Following their time on the show, the pair rented a £1 million pad in Essex and moved in together. They seemed fine and even went on their first holiday together in May 2022. They followed that up by celebrating their first anniversary with Instagram tributes to each other. Sadly, they struggled with several issues behind the scenes and eventually grew apart. The two reportedly split in October 2022, barely two months after celebrating their first anniversary. Although fans have gotten used to the malleability of reality TV relationships, the failure of these three Love Island romances still left many heartbroken. Nonetheless, fans hope there’ll be many more enduring love stories to expect from future Love Island stars.
