The latest trailer for The Outer Worlds explores the communities players can join in the world created by Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.
The premise boils down to if you have any skill to do anything at all, there’s a job for your character on Terra 2. It’s a blend of the wacky and obsceneness of Borderlands and the design and feel of the Fallout series.
The nearly four-minute-long trailer showcases a few of The Outer Worlds‘ companies players can join: Halcyon colony or Monarch. Where Halcyon is focused on forming and building its community, Monarch is more akin to the wild west and lawlessness of space.
Choosing to live a life on Halcyon will see players rewarded with “guaranteed” amenities such as a place to live and food and drinks. It’s a homestead full of companies fighting for power, control, and your service. Which sounds eerily familiar.
While those who travel to Monarch will find it void of much human life. Instead, they will discover several unique and interesting alien lifeforms which the characters are tasked with hunting.
The trailer also featured a look at some of the guns and weapons found in The Outer Worlds, including a look at the games take on the V.A.T.S. ability in Fallout.
Another focus was a look at the flaw mechanic. With the character being slain by a robot, causing fear of automatons and a fear of heights after they fell, well jumped really, from a balcony.
The trailer dropped during the PAX West “Bringing The Characters of The Outer Worlds” panel today. During the panel, the developers introduced Victoria Sanchez, the voice of Ellie.
