Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now. He’s big enough to have his own rather high-maintenance requests, like how he can’t lose fights on-screen. So it’s no wonder why Sean Evans, host of the Hot Ones interview show, wanted The Rock on set. It’s an interview show with a twist since both the host and the interviewee have to eat chicken wings of increasing spiciness all throughout the talk. However, it seems even Sean Evans had to bend to The Rock’s odd request for the interview. The Rock wanted grilled salmon instead of spicy chicken wings.
From Sean Evans himself in an interview with Bloomber,
“We’ve been pitching [The Rock] obviously for years and one time I got a note back that was like, ‘would you be willing to do, instead of wings, grilled salmon strips?’ And in my head I was like, that had to come from his mouth,” Evans told Bloomberg. He continued, “That’s as close as we’ve gotten. And then it fell through.”
Sadly, it’s not clear if there was a follow-up to the exchange, but we won’t be seeing The Rock in Hot Ones munching down some grilled salmon strips with Sean Evans while answering some presumably disarming interview questions.
The Rock Wasn’t the First
Some are wondering whether it’s because chicken wings are too high in fat in its fat-to-protein-ratio, making it count as a cheat meal for The Rock. Or perhaps it could just be a case of getting too fed up with chicken, especially as a bodybuilder.
It is worth noting that The Rock isn’t exactly the only celebrity who wanted to change the nature of the show for his preference. The Hot Ones also previously had to accommodate dozens of vegan celebrities with vegan wings. So The Rock asking for grilled salmon strips instead of chicken wings isn’t entirely too outrageous. It was rather odd since he’s not a Pescatarian.
