As with all the other Sims games, there are different levels to every relationship type. You can have friends, romances, and enemies. However, there are levels for each. With friendships, you have good friends, acquaintances, soulmates, and even enemies with benefits! Family relationships in The Sims 4 include mother, father, step-brother, etc. types. Each relationship type is caused by different variations of your two relationship meters. For instance, Soulmates have maxed out friendship and love meters, while enemies with benefits have low friendship meters with high love meters.

How to Build Relationships in the Sims 4

Building a relationship in The Sims 4 can be tricky, given that each Sim has a distinct personality, and some need to be more social. Following these steps, you will be able to grow your relationships in The Sims 4:

  • Keep the interactions original.
    • When you repeat the same interactions, it only makes the other Sim bored.
    • A great way to fix this is to mix it up a bit. Rather than just chatting, start discussing interests or even talking about work.
  • Timing is Everything.
    • It would be best to watch your needs and only go after social interaction when your Sim has positive moodlets.
    • The interactions aren’t very positive if you walk up to a fellow Sim and try to talk to them while stinky, tired, or starving.
  • Get to Know Your Friends.
    • Getting to know other Sims can significantly affect your relationship-building process. Paying attention to what they like can help you figure out the right things to discuss to keep them interested!

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
