Back in 2015, we all got the fantastic Until Dawn interactive horror game, and in 2024, we got its not-so-great remake. However, there was also news about a movie bringing the classic tale to the big screen. According to new information, the Until Dawn movie is taking a new bold approach, changing its cast and storyline completely. Naturally, this has raised many eyebrows, but we can see some logic behind the decision.
During CES 2025, Peter Stormare (Dr. Alan J. Hill) mentioned that the Until Dawn movie would feature a new cast and plot and confirmed the movie’s release date for April 25, 2025. (We’ve attached the video with the timestamp above).
In truth, this decision seems a bit weird, but not entirely wrong. Many would be expecting a full “true-to-the-source” movie, but if you think about it, playing Until Dawn already feels like watching a movie, so fans of the video game might not get a lot of enjoyment watching something they already played in a more interactive way. On the other hand, some are a bit skeptical about how this “brand-new story loaded with twists” will work. Usually, when certain video game movies take broad creative approaches, things don’t work out that well. Yet, we’ll have to wait until the movie premieres to see how good or bad it is.
The Until Dawn movie is being directed by David F. Samberg (Shazam!) and features Maia Mitchell (No Way Out), Ella Rubin (Anora), Belmont Cameli (Along for the Ride), Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser), Michael Cimino (Girl Haunts Boy), Ji-young Yoo (Freaky Tales), and Willem van der Vegt (Fight or Flight).
While many would’ve loved to see the original characters reprise their roles, it is a bit interesting to see how this approach will pay off. As long as it doesn’t turn into another run-of-the-mill jump-scare-fueled movie, we should be in for a good time.
