After a somewhat quiet period involving Trump, the President has made headlines for what many describe as a “tantrum.” Not long ago, the EU announced its plans to bring Canada in as an associate member. However, it would seem that when Trump learned about this, he didn’t like the idea, describing it as a “hostile act.” To make matters worse, he is now threatening the EU with tariffs, as he thinks this deal is “laughable.”
For the unaware, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, mentioned that the EU is considering bringing Canada in as an associate member, which, according to several sources, would be the first.
This deal seems to stem from the fact that Canada has been trying to find other alliances outside of the US. As many know, Trump has imposed a lot of tariffs on the northern neighbor, which hasn’t been ideal for any of the countries.
If the EU’s proposal were to pass, it would create a strong relationship with Canada, which, according to the above post, is what the EU has been seeking.
Still, it seems Trump didn’t like the announcement. Yesterday, he talked about how that proposal was “laughable,” calling Canada a “terrible trade partner.” Furthermore, he said that if he considers this to be a hostile act, he would impose some “serious tariffs” or even stop trading with Europe altogether.

Others, however, focused on the broken alliances, which we mentioned above. Many still think that Trump has already jeopardized many bonds and trade deals that benefited Americans, which is why other countries are looking for allies elsewhere.
