A Florida content creator has gone viral after sharing his frustration over the cost of building a home in his area. He claimed a conversation he had with a construction company made him realize he could end up paying nearly a million dollars, which was far more than he originally expected to spend. “This is how bad inflation is right now,” the man said in his video.

This is how bad inflation is right now in the housing market because you are telling me that I would have to pay $900k for a $500k home with two separate loans one for the land and another for the house while both having two separate interest rates

The TikTok creator, who posts under the name @chief_malo, said he recently explored the possibility of building a home with a budget between $400,000 and $500,000. He explained that he originally believed constructing a home would be cheaper and offer more flexibility than purchasing an older property.

According to him, when he contacted a home construction company believing his budget would be enough to begin discussions, the representative asked whether he already owned land. The Florida man’s answer was no.

The $900K Reality Behind Building a Home

The conversation between the two shifted when the Florida man learned the land itself could cost around $400,000 in his area. He also claimed he was told construction companies often separate financing for land purchases and home construction into different loans.

The TikToker recalled being shocked by the numbers. “You’re telling me that I will have to pay two separate loans with two separate interest rates,” he said, adding that he understood the total cost could get up to $900,000. He said the representative attributed part of the problem to the housing market and rising material costs, including lumber prices.

The conversation ultimately led him to abandon the idea altogether.

How Netizens Are Reacting to the Florida Man’s Post

In the comments, many netizens said the TikToker’s experience reflected their own concerns about affordability and inflation. Some questioned whether homeownership has become unrealistic for average earners.

“So you have to be a millionaire to build yourself a home???” one person asked. Another said, “I stand no chance in this economy.” A third remarked, “Nothing is attainable anymore.” A fourth added, “We are priced out. There is no middle class, it’s just rich and poor.”

Some people shared their own experiences of witnessing housing prices increase astronomically. “I knew how bad inflation was when my $200000 childhood home is now worth $850000 20 years later it’s insanity,” one netizen wrote. Another claimed, “My wife’s mom helped us out with our first house at 280k. Since Trump been back our estimate for our area is 400-500k now. Ridiculous this house from the 70s😂.”

Another group of netizens offered advice on how the Florida content creator should approach his housing situation. “Your best bet is to buy a fixer and pay a contractor to remodel,” one comment read. A self-identified realtor offered a different perspective, writing, “You will NEVER catch me in a new construction home. Get you something built decades ago. Old stuff was built to last.”

As of now, the video has drawn more than 2 million views and over 260,000 likes.
