‘Where’s My Welfare Check?’: Former California County Worker Claims Undocumented Families Exploit Public Benefits ‘Loophole’

A California woman who said she previously worked in county social services has gone viral online after she came out with serious claims that some undocumented immigrants were exploiting the state’s benefits system. The self-proclaimed whistleblower said in a video shared on TikTok that what she witnessed made her change her political views before leaving the job. “I went in full Democrat,” she said. “Full Liberal, and I came out Republican.”

The woman explained that while working in the department, she handled applications connected to programs such as Medicaid, food stamps, disability, unemployment, and housing assistance. According to her, workers could easily verify the financial status of applicants who had Social Security numbers because their financial and employment information could be reviewed through the system.

However, she claimed the process had a “loophole” for undocumented immigrants who apply for assistance for their children who were born in the United States. She said that while those children qualified for several forms of aid as U.S. citizens, it was very hard to verify the parent’s financial status.

“[When] a parent that does not have a Social Security number apply for benefits for their children, there’s absolutely no way as a worker I could tell if they’re making income, if they have any property, if they did taxes, how much money they made. There’s just no way,” the woman said in the video.

‘They Don’t Even Care’

The woman alleged there were cases where undocumented applicants would appear financially comfortable and still ask, “where’s my welfare check?,” whereas, according to her, many struggling U.S. citizens who should qualify for such benefits are left with nothing.

“They don’t even care. They don’t even hide it,” she said of those applicants. “I used to live in a neighborhood where 70% of the people around me were undocumented and man, did they live the life. New cars, parties every weekend.”

The woman said that although she personally had nothing against them, she believed the California state government needs to put proper safeguards in place, including enforcing immigration laws, to “limit this kind of fraud and waste.”

Netizens React to California Woman’s Claims

In the comments, many people were outraged by the woman’s claims. One person said, “They are ripping us off and so are our politicians which makes our cost of living so high.” Another questioned, “How are they going to qualify for benefits if they don’t have a social security number???” A third wrote, “Some of my family thinks I’m against my own people for being Republican, they don’t understand this here!” A fourth remarked, “I’m sick of our Government.”

Some netizens mentioned how they had struggled to receive aid when they applied. “I am a veteran and when I got injured in the line of duty and could not work and went to apply for help [I] was denied,” one viewer commented. “My husband after a stroke couldn’t work and applied for disability and was denied!!” someone else added.

A few claimed they had worked in similar fields and seen similar situations themselves. “I was also a county worker and seen the same thing. Its just not right,” one comment read. Another alleged, “I worked for a subsidized childcare agency in California and I hated to see that. The fraud was blatant and we all knew it but couldn’t do anything about it.”

The video has since garnered tens of thousands of views on TikTok and has also spread to other platforms.
