The second Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, subtitled Out of the Shadows, releases in just a few weeks on June 3rd. It was originally announced at Wondercon that Krang, the alien warlord/brain monster would be voiced by former SNL cast member Fred Armisen. The LA Times has reported that Armisen was never officially confirmed by Paramount and will not be voicing the TMNT villain after all. Brad Garrett will instead lend his voice to the film’s antagonist.
Brad Garrett is probably most well known for playing the title character’s brother on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. However, he will be adding TMNT to a long list of successful voice acting work, including work in Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, and Tangled. He also recently appeared on the FX crime drama, Fargo. It will be interesting to see how a voice actor mostly known for comedic performances translates his voice work to a comic book film playing a bloodthirsty alien monster. With this announcement coming so late in the film’s development cycle, it will also be interesting to see if they had just been keeping Garrett under wraps or if he was a last-minute addition to the film.
The second TMNT film will feature appearances by many fan favorite characters. In addition to Krang, Baxter Stockman, along with Bebop and Rocksteady, will be teaming up to take down the turtles. To even the odds, the hockey mask-clad Casey Jones will also be making an appearance.
TMNT first appeared as a comic in the 1980s before skyrocketing to mainstream popularity due to a 1990s children’s cartoon, spawning every conceivable product and tie-in available. This latest iteration of the turtles appeared in 2014, raking in around $500 million dollars worldwide at the box office. TMNT 2: Out of the Shadows releases on June 3rd.
