While The Sims 4 might not have too much going on with expansions and whatnot, the mods available for it are vast and, honestly, one of the best parts of the game. Since the game’s official release, the excitement surrounding new expansions and stuff packs has slowly died down, all while the modding scene has increased in popularity. Nowadays, if you aren’t modding The Sims 4, you really aren’t experiencing the game’s full potential. However, there can be quite a few different mods to choose from, some much better than others, and having a helping hand at picking out the best ones for you can work wonders. Here are the best in no particular order.
Food Delivery Service
The Food Delivery Service mod by LittleMsSam is an excellent one to start with. For the longest time, your Sims are pretty limited to the food they can order when they’re really just not feeling like cooking dinner. This mod gives you more options for food delivery, including different types of food, serving sizes, and prices. Not to mention, the Food Delivery Service is available 24/7, making it a quick fix when you just don’t have food to cool or aren’t feeling up to it.
Better Babies & Toddlers
For the longest time, The Sims 4 has definitely put more work into Young Adult and Adult Sims rather than children, babies, and toddlers. Though, with the Better Babies & Toddlers mod by Caradriel, you can experience babies and toddlers in a whole new light. You will unlock loads of new options when it comes to interacting with the younger children in your household, and even share self-care tips among your new parent friends.
Career Overhaul Suite
You can’t go wrong with anything that improves The Sims 4 careers, given how important they are in the game. In the Career Overhaul Suite mod by Kuttoe, you can experience exactly that. You’ll see new promotional goals, new pay rate changes, and even reputation changes, fame bonuses, and goodie bags that can be brought home from work.
Mortem
Death in Sims 4 is a bit of a joke, as the Grim Reaper will simply appear and take your Sims away. However, with the Mortem Mod by SimRealist, players can have much more realistic circumstances surrounding the death of their Sims. In this Sims 4 mod, players will be able to hold funerals, report found bodies, and show their condolences to grieving Sims. This might not seem like a big deal, but if you really get into the game and try your best to keep your Sims happy, having a way to honor them even after death can be huge.
MorphMaker
In Sims 4, you’re pretty limited in what kind of character you can create. While there are some options to make some strange-colored sims so they can pass as aliens, that’s about all there is to it. However, with the MorphMaker mod by CmarNYC your options become much more extensive. This mod also supports all species, ages, genders, frames, and occults.
The Zombie Apocalypse Mod
Players bored with the mundane lifestyles of your average Sims 4 character should check out the Zombie Apocalypse Mod by SacrificialMods . This mod involves spreading a zombification virus, leading to a full-on zombie invasion. For players looking for one of the best zombie-inspired Sims 4 mods, the Zombie Apocalypse Mod is one of the best. It’s one thing to make the game a bit better, but to essentially add in a whole new game mode is astronomical.
Graphics Overhaul
The Sims 4 has some pretty unique visuals, but someitmes, it’s just not what you’re looking for. While the game isn’t great at visuals or realism, we kind of signed up for the game as is. However, there are different mods that can make the game look so much better. For instance Simp4Sims’ Graphics Overhaul mod can make a huge difference, and also make everything look much nicer and visually pleasing.
100 Base Game Traits Pack
The 100 Base Game Traits mod by chingyu1023 is a rather interesting mod,a nd not one that many people think of when they start searching for mods. The game adds in lodas of traits to the game, each with their own CAS animations, autonigy, distinctive buffs, impacts on relationships, and emotions. There are several packs, each containing a focus on different emotions, like extroversion, social behanvior, and intimacy.
UI Cheats
Do you find it annoying to try to remember all of the cheats for The Sims 4? There are quite a few mods out there that can help, but none as good as the UI Cheats Extension by weerbesu. If you have a chat in mind you’d like to use, for instance, once that adds a certain trait to a Sim, it can easily be done just by interacting with that Sim. The same goes for several other objects in-game and makes your console commands a thousand times easier to navigate and use.
Social Activities
While it’s no lie that The Sims 4 doesn’t bring a lot of realism to the table when it comes to social interactions and activities, there are some mods out there that can greatly improve those aspects of the game. For instance, the Social Activities mod by LittleMsSam gives you tons of new opportunities and availabilities when it comes to filling up your Sim’s social calendar. You can take your friends out, take a break from the kiddo and leave them in daycare, or even plan out a romantic evening.
Have Some Personality Please!
When it comes to Sims interactions with each other, it can get a bit repetitive, and given the Traits each Sim is created with, there isn’t all that much that is really done to altar their personalities. The Have Some Personality Please mod by PolarBearSims adds not only more realistic personality traits, but it also makes interactions much more realistic, including restricting romance options until higher romance levels, creating more alien interactions, and even giving cant, dogs, and horses personalities of their own.
Meaningful Stories
The Meaningful Stories mod by roBurky is definitely the one you want to get if you are interesting in the mood and emotions systems within The Sims 4, and want to see an improvement to them. This mod holds a whole collections of changes with the primary goal of making Sims feel much more human, and make the events in their life feel real, justified, and even more challenging to navigate.
Foster Family
There are loads of mods for The Sims 4 that have to do with pregnancy, children, teens, and more, but there isn’t too much in the way of having a family outside of getting pregnant or adopting. The Foster Family mod by LittleMsSam makes it fully possible for you to have a family by fostering kids and pets. It adds a Foster Family Network menu with options available to register to be a Foster Family.
Better Elders
The Better Elders mod by PimpMySims4 provides a full revamp for some of The Sims 4‘s oldest Sims. Better Elders adds a bunch more gameplay for Elder Sims, and a more in-depth death experience for them. You’ll see more traits, events, aspirations, and even interactions that will make your Elder Sims feel much more real and human. Before, there wasn’t much you could do with elders. Now, however, you can do just about everything, even down to spoiling your grandchildren, or destroying the hopes and dreams of the next generation.
