Remnant 2 was one of the most anticipated games of this year for many reasons. While many wanted to play yet another Soulsborne game with gut-wrenching difficulty, others wanted a co-op experience with friends. Nonetheless, Remnant has become popular for mixing the elements of third-person looter-shooters with gameplay difficulty and world-building of the Soulsborne genre, which has paid off greatly. But if you are looking for even more titles like Remnant 2, here are 10 more games to play if you enjoyed Remnant.
Remnant 2 is a unique game, making it challenging to find something notably comparable. While there might be some games with many similarities, there will be games that only share one or two similar attributes. Therefore, we will introduce games with one or more genre-related characteristics similar to Remnant 2. Among our picks, we guarantee a title on this list will be something you’ll enjoy.
10 – Remnant From the Ashes
The first game you should try if you enjoyed Remnant 2 is the previous installment of the series, Remnant From the Ashes. It lacks the visual polish and gunplay smoothness of Remnant 2, but you will enjoy it if you like its sequel. There are boss fights, co-op play, and addictive shooter-looter mechanics as well. If you haven’t checked out the prequel in the series, it’s definitely a worthwhile experience. The first Remnant was on Game Pass for some time. Now, it typically appears in bundles or goes on sale occasionally.
9 – The Last of Us
The Last of Us and Remnant 2 both take place in a bleak and dark world. While Remnant 2 leans more toward dark fantasy, The Last of Us is more of an apocalyptic game. However, once you start playing the game, you will notice similarities between both titles after a few hours. Suppose you want to play a game with a great story that shares some similarities with Remnant 2, like third-person gunplay or resource scavenging. In that case, give The Last of Us a go.
8 – Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3 would be the outcome of what would happen if Remnant 2 was set in a colorful and fun world as an FPS experience. However, don’t let the first-person view of the game or its iconic, stylish visuals deceive you. Once you play Borderlands 3, you will notice how much similar they are. The shooting-looting aspect of Borderlands 3 is even more fun than Remnant 2. The cherry on top is that you can also play the game with your friends. So if you want a fun looter-shooter co-op experience, do not sleep on Borderlands 3.
7 – Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
One of the underrated multiplayer games on the market is The Division 2. While the series’ first game received much criticism for its visual downgrades, Ubisoft has learned its lesson and made The Division 2 a great multiplayer game. You and your friends must fight through the quarantined Washington D.C., battling enemies and scavenging resources to prolong your survival. If you enjoyed playing Remnant 2 with friends, The Division 2 is a great choice.
6 – State of Decay 2
State of Decay 2 is a multiplayer survival game where you and your friends can help each other create their bases, complete tasks, and defeat enemies. The State of Decay 2 may not have the looter aspect of Remnant 2. Still, you will have fun finding resources to upgrade your weapons or bases with your friends. If you are looking for a co-op game like Remnant 2 with more survival elements, then make sure to check out the State of Decay 2.
5 – Monster Hunter World
If you change the dark and gloomy world of Remnant 2 with a more colorful world but keep everything else the same, you get Monster Hunter World. As the game’s name suggests, you will hunt down gigantic monsters. With a diverse arsenal of weaponry available, you can join friends or strangers to take down the dinosaur-esque beasts. Monster Hunter World allows you to hunt small or big creatures with your friends and use items monsters drop to upgrade your armor and weapons to become a more deadly hunter.
4 – Destiny 2
Destiny 2 is one of the best multiplayer games available that shares many similarities with Remnant 2. Even if we exclude the fund and addictive multiplayer aspect of the game, in Destiny 2, you have exotic ranged and melee weapons, challenging quests to complete, and epic boss fights that will test your might. Not to mention its addictive reward system that makes looting most satisfying. Unlike Borderlands 3, Destiny 2‘s lore and world have their share of dark settings, making it perfect for Remnant 2 fans.
3 – Dark Souls Series
One of the main inspirations for the Remnant series was the Dark Souls series made by FromSoftware. Both franchises share a dark world, brutally punishing enemies and boss fights. The most significant difference is that melee weapons are the focus in Dark Souls rather than ranged weapons. If you decide to try the series, it is best to start with Dark Souls 3, the most accessible in the trilogy.
2 – Bloodborne
Unlike Dark Souls, Bloodborne features a gothic art style and architecture of its world. But like Remnant, it is much darker and more menacing. Moreover, Bloodborne is more fast-paced than the Souls series, making it closer to Remnant 2. You have a variety of melee weapons and a few ranged armaments to hunt monsters. The movement and gameplay speed of Bloodborne is much closer to the Remnant series. So if you want to play a Souls-like game with fast and quick fight sequences that are still pretty difficult to beat, then play Bloodborne.
1 – Returnal
Returnal is the twin sister of Remnant but lacks multiplayer. Apart from that, Returnal is the nearest experience to Remnant 2 that you can have. You have all sorts of weapons, fast-paced action sequences, and dark, ominous locations. Above all, boss fights are incredibly intense and unforgettable. The story of Returnal is also one of the best and underrated ones in the past couple of years. Returnal skillfully balances progression for world biomes and character capabilities and weaponry.
