After playing through Once Human for nearly 300 hours, I’ve gotten attached to many of the Deviants I’ve captured. More specifically, I’ve grown an attachment to many of the combat Deviants, especially those who have helped pull me out of difficult boss battles. So, let’s go over the top five best combat Deviants in the game, why they’re so great, and how they can benefit you in battle!
Butterfly’s Emissary
The very first Deviant you get in Once Human is also one of the greatest combat Deviants you can use. The Butterfly’s Emissary has two major attacks that you can take advantage of:
- Designated Target
- Targets in the direction you are facing will be prioritized. I found that activating this ability and then shooting at the target you want it to attack is more effective.
- Auto Attack
- Using Auto Attack, Butterfly’s Emissary will attack all of the enemies around you, starting with the closest. This is recommended if you are being bombarded with attacks from enemies.
You can quickly recover its power and mood at your base by using a green light near the Securement Unit it is placed in and placing it with flowers.
Shattered Maiden
Shattered Maiden can freeze enemies and use the same attacks as Butterfly’s Emissary. There are only a few minor differences:
- Designated Target
- Shattered Maiden will attack any enemies directly in front of it. Similarly to Butterfly’s Emissary, shooting them first makes this easier.
- Auto Attack
- Shattered Maiden will inflict Slowdown and Chained to enemies that are not bosses while increasing their Explosion damage by 40%.
To increase its Deviant Power and Mood, use both red and blue lights and remember to plant flowers nearby.
Mini Feaster
You can summon combat tentacles to damage enemies with the Mini Feaster. Its attacks are similar to the above two but with some added oomph.
- Designated Target
- You can choose what target Mini Feaster attacks by facing them.
- Touch of the Abyss
- With this ability, Mini Feaster will follow you and summon one tentacle near an enemy every five seconds, dealing damage. When a target triggers Bounce, an extra tentacle will spawn; for each extra one, your weapon damage increases between 17.5% and 70%.
To recover Deviant Power and Mood, use red lights and place toys around them. If you have a radio, bring it close and play music around the Deviant.
Lonewolf’s Whisper
The Lonewolf’s Whisper is a tough cookie, and can be obtained as a potential drop from the Shadow Hound.
- Designated Attack
- Like most of the other Deviants on this list, a Designated Attack is an attack in the direction you are facing.
- Auto Attack
- With this attack, Lonewolf’s Whisper will attack enemies starting with the closest one until it returns to your Cradle.
For some reason, you can increase Lonewolf’s Whisper with a red light and have a fridge nearby.
Zeno-Purifier
My top pick for combat Deviants in Once Human will always be Zeno-Purifier. It’s fast and deals tons of damage with its quick blade. Its two abilities are:
- Designated Attack
- Zeno-Purifier will attack in the same direction that you are facing. Similar to above, if you shoot at the enemy you wish to attack, that will become the designated target.
- Auto Attack
- Zeno-Purifier will attack any and all enemies starting with the closest one.
For the Deviant’s power and mood, it’s recommended to use red lights and play music in the area.
Once Human can be played on PC and mobile devices.
