As the hero fated to save the world, you will need to do a lot of fighting. The Archfiend will be your main enemy, but you must first deal with his henchmen. While our protagonist is quite skilled and powerful, the journey you must take is filled with dangers. If you want to have a smooth and enjoyable time exploring this fantasy world in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, there are some tips and tricks that you need to use.
1. Save Your Money in Banks
Dying is not a pleasant experience in any game, but getting killed is even more troublesome in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. Although your journey won’t end, you will be revived back at the latest church you visit. To make matters worse, you will also lose half of your money.
While you will get a lot of them by killing monsters, the items that you can purchase are also very expensive. The best Dragon Quest III tip I can give is to save your money at the banks when you can. They’re only available in big cities, but you can easily teleport back using Chimera Wings or the Zoom ability.
2. Change Your Party
Before you set off on your journey in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, the king will give you a basic party filled with generic team members. While they’re not that bad, they’re not the best either. I highly recommend editing your team immediately. Luckily, you don’t need to spend any money to do this.
Just head to the tavern’s second floor and speak to the man on the left side of the room. He will allow you to create brand-new allies that you can fully customize. You can select their class, gender, appearance, and even voice. So, there is no reason for you to get stuck with the default party members if you don’t like them.
3. Pay Attention to Personality
At the start of Dragon Quest 3 Remake, you will get a strange personality quiz that will affect your hero’s character. Although the game will tell you not to pay attention to it, this mechanic will influence your hero’s and party member’s stat progressions.
For instance, if you get Tough Cookie as your hero’s personality, they will easily gain more points for their Stamina and Resilience when leveling up. On the other hand, it’s much harder to gain Luck. Note that each character’s personality will be unique, but you can still change them during mid-game.
4. Flee When Necessary
Gaining more EXP is important, but you also want to ensure you can survive the encounter and finish the dungeon. Even when you choose normal difficulty, fighting monsters isn’t something you can take lightly. Things get even more tricky when you are exploring an expansive dungeon with a boss at the end.
Never be afraid to flee when you are forced into an encounter in Dragon Quest 3 Remake. Although there’s a chance that you may fail to run away, it’s better than wasting your MP. After all, recovering HP is pretty easy since you can use many consumables, but MP recovery items are much rarer.
5. Complete Side Quests
Our hero’s main goal is defeating the Archfiend, but you can still complete some side activities on your journey. There are two side quests that you want to pay extra attention to. First, you can participate in the Monster Arena Tournament and get many rewards. You will need to catch some friendly monsters first, but you can easily get them if you have a Monster Wrangler on your team.
Another useful side quest you can complete is the mini medallion. This is a collectible that you can find in various chests and containers. You can give these medallions to the strange guy living inside your hometown’s well.
