The Pit in Diablo 4 is where you go to min-max and even test out if your build or gamer skills stand up to the most effective scrutiny in a video game: one-hit boss attacks. While The Pit in Diablo 4 Season 5 has been relegated to the background in favor of the newer Infernal Hordes endgame, it’s still a necessary activity if you want gear upgrades that can help you transcend your character’s limits. Hence, this guide for The Pit in Diablo 4 Season 5 is here to usher you into this new height of power.
How to Unlock The Pit in Diablo 4
Since The Pit is an endgame content in Diablo 4 starting from Season 4 onwards, you can’t access it right away — not even as early as World Tier 3. You have to be in World Tier 4 to get access to the Pit.
Once you get there, follow these further instructions to unlock The Pit, its currency, and other rewards related to it:
- Open your quest journal, and select the Priority Quest tab.
- Select the Pit of the Artificier Quest (Level 75).
- Complete a Tier 46+ Nightmare Dungeon.
After this, you can finally earn Runeshards from most game activities (Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, etc.); it is the currency needed to gain entry to The Pit. Each attempt costs 3x Runeshards. As for The Pit’s entrance, it’s located in Cerrigar, near the Waypoint. Walk up to it and interact with it.
How Does the Pit Work?
The Pit is essentially a series of three short dungeons per run, ending in a boss fight. To open the next dungeon stage, you need to slay as many enemies as you can before the timer runs out. Dying will shorten the timer, so you need to be skillful and careful.
The Pit is also divided into Tiers, like Nightmare Dungeons and the scaling is infinite. You can go as high as you can as long as your character can handle it. However, seeing as your character can only reach up to Level 100 and The Pit has enemies that can level up infinitely depending on tier, going higher is an ever-increasing challenge.
It’s not necessary to go as high as you can. The Pit offers diminishing returns the higher you go past a certain tier. Rewards are correlated to the tier, of course. There’s no incentive to go as high as you can past a certain point apart from challenging yourself. Still, the following builds can do well in The Pit since it’s a combination of speed-clearing and bossing:
- Minion Necromancer / Bone Spirit Necromancer
- Bow build Rogues
- Lightning Spear Sorcerer / Firebolt Sorcerer
- Landslide Druid
- Flay Barbarian / Bash Barbarian
The Pit Rewards
As for why you would want to attempt The Pit, each successful attempt or run will reward you with the following currencies that will let you Masterwork your gear.
The Pit Tiers | Reward | Masterwork Tier |
1-30 | Obducite | 1-4 |
31-60 | Ingolite | 5-8 |
61+ | Neathiron | 9-12 |
On top of that, each successful boss kill in The Pit will also reward you with a chest that can drop rare items, consumables, and currencies. More than anything, it’s content that lets you enjoy your most powerful gear.
