A Florida creator known for documenting life as a quadriplegic is going viral after sharing a video showing a U-Haul truck blocking a wheelchair ramp. While many commenters called the situation unacceptable and shared their own accessibility frustrations, others argued people were being too quick to judge the driver.
In the video, TikToker @elle.yona is seen maneuvering her powered wheelchair along a sidewalk before encountering a wheelchair ramp completely blocked by a U-Haul truck parked directly in front of it.
“This is what happens when ignorant people are allowed parking,” Elle says in the clip. As she continues down the sidewalk searching for another way around, she adds, “Like, how am I supposed to get down now?”
She captioned the short clip, “One thing worth being a Karen for #disabilityrights.” Since suffering a spinal cord stroke that left her completely paralyzed from the neck down, the Florida creator has used her platform to document life with a disability and educate viewers about accessibility challenges.
The Comment Section Chimes In
The majority of viewers were not impressed by the driver’s choice of parking.“Unacceptable, so sorry this happened to you,” one person wrote. Others were ready to make sure the driver faced consequences. Several suggested reporting the vehicle and having authorities issue a citation.
One commenter wrote, “Have the police issue a $250 ticket. Have them run the plate and send the ticket to the U-Haul company. They will probably have a credit card of the driver on file and they can either charge the customer on the return bill or add it to the credit card plus the tow charge.”
Many wheelchair users and disabled commenters also shared similar experiences while expressing sympathy for Elle.“I am disabled myself also in a powered wheelchair. If people would only understand how it feels when you’re going through something like this,” one person wrote. “This is very inconsiderate.”
Others thanked Elle for posting the video and highlighting accessibility issues that many non-disabled people rarely think about.“We needed to see this video, lots of ppl are so inconsiderate thank you for being a voice to many,” one commenter wrote.
While most responses were supportive of Elle, a smaller group urged viewers not to rush to conclusions about the driver. “I hate when ppl are inconsiderate too but don’t be so quick to judge someone you don’t know what their circumstances are,” one person argued.
Another acknowledged the problem but suggested it may not have been intentional, writing, “I get it, it sucks, but everyone is in their own world not thinking about you. Should they be more aware? Yes.” One user even suggested the video had been staged.
Primarily though, most Florida viewers saw the clip as a look at the everyday accessibility challenges wheelchair users face. Many felt it served as a reminder to think about how even seemingly small actions can create obstacles for others.
