This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

Staying warm in the Mountains of Valheim can be a challenge for new adventurers, as no battle-hardened warrior can withstand the frigid temperatures of the wintry biome. Adventurers exploring the Mountains for the first time will encounter the Freezing Effect’s HUD message “You are freezing,” after which they will receive a slight amount of damage over time. At first, the HP loss might initially seem minor. However, as you venture further into the frosty zone, your Health will gradually plummet, leaving you with only a limited amount of time before you must return to warmer areas or risk death from hypothermia.

How to Acquire Frost Resistance in Valheim

Staying Warm in the Mountains of Valheim with Wolf Armor and Frost Resistance Mead

Fortunately, there is a way to stay warm indefinitely within the Mountains without fretting about freezing to death in Valheim with Frost Resistance. This beneficial status effect is primarily acquired with specific pieces of armor and Frost Resistance Mead. Drinking Mead will temporarily provide resistance to the frigid climate, while the armor enables adventurers to explore the biome without restriction.

Below is an index with information from the official Valheim Wiki that describes every source of Frost Resistance for staying warm in the Mountains. Remember that the resistance the mead or armor pieces provide does not stack, meaning you only need one of the items below to prevent the Freezing Effect.

Frost Resistance Item How to Obtain
Frost Resistance Mead
  • Brew the Mead Base: Frost Resistance in a Fermenter for two in-game days.
  • The Mead Base is made by combining the following ingredients at a Cauldron:
    • Honey × 10 — collected from Beehives made using Wood and a Queen Bee found in a wild nest
    • Thistle × 5 — grows in the Black Forest and Swamp
    • Bloodbag × 2 — drops from Swamp Leeches
    • Greydwarf Eye × 1 — drops from all variants of the Greydwarf
Wolf Fur Cape
  • Crafted at a Workbench using the following materials:
    • Wolf pelt × 6 — Common drop from a Mountain Wolf
    • Silver × 4 — Forged in a Smelter with ore mined from Silver Ore Deposits in the Mountains
    • Wolf trophy × 1 — Rare Mountain Wolf drop
Wolf Armor Chest
  • Crafted at a Workbench using the following materials:
    • Silver × 20
    • Wolf pelt × 5
    • Chain × 1 — Dropped by Swamp Wraiths and spawns in Sunken Crypts Chests
Lox Cape
  • Crafted at a Workbench using the following materials:
    • Lox Pelt × 6
    • Silver × 2 — Dropped by Lox in the Plains
Fenris Coat
  • Crafted at a Workbench using the following materials:
    • Fenris Hair × 20 — Spawns in Mountain Frost Caves
    • Wolf Pelt × 5
    • Leather Scraps × 10 — Drops from Boars and Bats

Brew or craft one of the Frost Resistance items above, and you will be able to stay warm while exploring the Mountains in Valheim.
