Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Announced

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), the upcoming FPS from Infinity Ward and Activision, may be marking a return for the series to Steam, if a teaser from Steam is to be believed. The teaser was a quote tweet to the Modern Warfare 2 reveal announcement, which you can find below.

Why Does Call of Duty Returning to Steam Matter?

— Steam (@Steam) June 2, 2022

As you can see (or in case you can’t), Steam quote tweeted the original tweet with eyes, almost implying it has something to do with the announcement. Given there aren’t a lot of other options for what they could be teasing, it’s more than likely a tease of the series moving back to Steam. With that being said, it’s likely the game will also come to the Battle.net platform as it has previously. We don’t know that for certain though, and likely won’t know until the proper reveal of the game on June 8.

Now, I already know some of you are wondering why this is such a big deal and that’s completely fair. If you’re used to the releases on Battle.net now then this likely won’t matter much, though those of us who like having less clutter on our desktops will heavily appreciate the move back to Steam. Steam also brings several nice additions that Battle.net doesn’t house, most namely user reviews and concurrent player numbers. The ability to see these stats allows most of us to properly get an idea of if the game is still worth purchasing even a short way down the line. That, and contributing our thoughts is quite nice. This isn’t an option we’ve had since the launch of Call of Duty: WWII way back in 2017, so its return is more than welcome.

I’d love to hear your thoughts though. Are you excited about the new Modern Warfare 2 making its way to Steam? Do you think Call of Duty will move entirely over to Steam, or will it share both platforms? Let me know!
