A video circulating online appears to show a Black man in Tennessee being confronted by two neighbors while helping a friend clean gutters. The man was reportedly assisting a friend whose father had recently undergone knee replacement surgery and needed help with tasks around the property. While he was in the yard alone, two neighbors confronted him, resulting in a tense exchange that was captured on video. The clip has since circulated widely online, sparking debate.
The clip begins by setting the scene, showing a female neighbor confronting the man, who goes by the name “Jr” on TikTok. The accompanying text reads, “POV: A racist karen profiles you” and sees the woman questioning the man as he’s sat alone in the yard, asking, “Do you live in the area? I’m gonna ask you to leave, okay?” The video then cuts to earlier in the day, showing the man in the yard working out and lifting a ladder he had brought over to help clean the gutters.
A male neighbor then approaches and asks similar questions, including “Do you live here?” When the man replies, “No,” the neighbor responds, “You need to go.” The Black man responds sarcastically, saying, “It’s dangerous out here, man. Real dangerous.” Next, the female neighbour from the beginning of the video confronts him, asking where he got the ladder and telling him he is on private property. The man is aware of this, as he is there to help a friend, though he does not explain that immediately.
The woman continues to express that she finds it “odd” and “scary” seeing a man in the neighbour’s yard, asking, “Is there something you need to tell me?” though the man says there’s nothing he needs to tell her, before adding, “This hasn’t happened to me before.” She claims that there are little kids running around, although the man does say in a follow-up video that he didn’t see any kids at all in the neighborhood.
When the man’s friend arrives, the woman asks why the man is there, and the friend explains that he is with him. During a brief back-and-forth, the woman explains her “fear” and how she feels it’s “weird” seeing a man working out with a ladder in her neighbor’s yard. After the awkward confusion is cleared up, the clip comes to an end.

Social media users quickly took to the comments to share their reactions to the viral clip, with the majority siding with the man and others siding with the neighbors. On TikTok, one commenter sided with the man and wrote, “You don’t owe them an explanation” while another added, “You are answering way too many questions.” A third penned, “Bottom line: you’re allowed to be there. You don’t have to justify your presence to strangers. Your priority is to stay safe and avoid escalation.”
Others, however, sympathised with the neighbors, with one person declaring, “I believe she is genuinely curious about the situation and shows no signs of racist intent. Her tone is polite and professional. In my view, we should give her the benefit of the doubt. she appears to be simply inquisitive.” while another chimed in with, “This whole video annoyed me on both sides 😒”

While the neighbors’ actions may appear to stem from curiosity about who was on the property, some viewers have suggested that the confrontation may have carried a racial undertone.
