Virginia Democratic Socialists Are Encouraging Citizens to Report Flock Cameras: ‘Get the Flock Outta Here’

A common topic among many Americans nowadays is flock cameras. As you know, these ones keep popping up in different places across the country, and some people have been against them, with several asking the government to take them down. Yet there have also been situations in which certain parties stirred the pot, encouraging citizens to tell those in charge to remove these surveillance cameras. Something like this happened in Richmond, Virginia, where the Democratic Socialists of America put up a billboard encouraging people to tell the mayor to remove flock cameras, once and for all.

The picture comes from Reddit user ccarvalhaes, who shared it on the Virginia subreddit. The picture shows a billboard in the city that says, “Hate Mass Surveillance? Tell Mayor Avula: Get Flock Off My Block.” It also mentioned that the Richmond Democratic Socialists of America paid for the billboard.

The billboard caught the attention of many, especially after OP shared the picture on Reddit, and many started talking about how flock cameras have been an issue that many Americans, not only those in Virginia, have been uncomfortable with. However, it seems the current administration is still looking for ways to install them wherever they see fit.

Besides the call to action, OP also shared a link to a website where people can send a letter to Mayor Avula to remove flock cameras. At the time of writing, 674 letters have been sent. A lot of people in the comments have mentioned they’ve written the letter, hoping for Avula to take the flock cameras away.

Virginia Redditors Unite Against Flock Cameras

Other Redditors started commenting about their discomfort with flock cameras, and even praising those who have taken an anti-flock stance at some city hall meetings.

“Thanks to all the folks repping BLOCK FLOCK at tonight’s city council meeting!“

“Just sent a message. Trying to be optimistic that this kind of thing can actually work.”

A few others noted the worldplay on the advertisement, and followed up with their suggestions for some phrases that would fit the above billboard.

“Missed opportunity for ‘Get the flock off my block‘”

While the majority wants to see these cameras disappear, a few Redditors think the city needs them, especially to combat crime. Still, most people believe they are invasive and should be removed. However, given what’s been happening in other states, some believe we’ll continue to see more of these flock cameras on the streets.
