A Seattle, Washington man was minding his business around 9 a.m. on Sunday, taking a walk. All of a sudden, he was called out by another man for simply being trans. The alleged incident ended in an assault that cost him his tooth, his dignity, and worst of all: It happened in front of bystanders who did nothing to help.
TikToker @hopelessleftist says he was “beat up yesterday for being trans.” He was allegedly punched in the face on a bright, sunny morning by a man who didn’t like that he looks a certain way. It cost him having his front tooth broken out of his mouth. The man walked up to him on the sidewalk at a bus stop, where multiple bystanders stood around. Before the assault, the man asked him, “What is that?” This TikToker says he should have kept walking and ignored him but he didn’t. Instead, he walked up to the man and asked, “What did you say to me?” This ended in the assault.
When he was punched, he looked at the multiple bystanders and begged them for help, and to call 911. Nobody called. They all “shook their heads” and looked away from him instead. He said this was a calculated “hate crime.” He also noted that this is why people say “protect trans people,” because they’re not always safe, even when they think they are on a regular, sunny Sunday.
Now, this TikToker says that he doesn’t know how to deal with his feelings surrounding the incident. He said he’s always been taught about “how to keep myself safe” as a trans man. But it wasn’t even late at night and there were multiple people around, so he figured he was safe. He thought people would rush to help him or start recording the incident on their phones. Unfortunately, nobody acted to help him. He worries for other trans people who are just trying to go about their day and have to be afraid of these things happening to them.
Commenters reacted to his video, shocked by what they heard. They were in disbelief that somebody would blatantly commit assault like that in broad daylight, and how no bystanders jumped into action. One commenter asked in shock, “And nobody helped??” Another commenter reassured him, “Do not ever blame yourself for this. EVER. Nothing you did or didn’t should’ve resulted in assault. I am so sorry.” Another commenter replied to this, “It’s extremely concerning how the assaulter was triggered by a simple, ‘What’d you say?’ They’re either easily intimidated or were begging for an excuse to assault a stranger.”
Commenters continue to flood his comments, showing support and questioning the nature of people who commit these horrible crimes. They spread love through phrases like, “Trans rights are human rights.”
