In the vast open winter wonderland that is Wasteland 3, there are quite a few ways to make money. For instance, you can complete quests and gain potentially up to a thousand dollars, or sell items and weapons. However, the best method by far to make fat stacks of cold hard cash is by selling junk items. With that said, in this guide, I will teach you the art of making high stake business deals in the wasteland and how to become the greatest junk salesman or woman in Colorado.
How to Sell Junk and Make Money
The first step on the road to becoming a Wasteland 3 junk entrepreneur and making loads of money is to make sure you have at least one character with a high Barter skill of at least seven or higher as shown above. This part is really important as it unlocks the perk that is vital for this entire method. Once you have a character with level seven Barter, you will then need to get the Antiques Appraiser perk. This will make it so all junk items when sold have a 5% chance of being sold at 50x their base value.
Now once you have a character decked out with both the Antiques Appraiser perk as shown below and a high Barter skill, you will then need to know where to find junk items. To start, you can find junk primarily from loot containers and dropping as loot from dead enemies, so get killing and pillaging! You’ll also gain a lot of it as you progress further in Wasteland 3, so you don’t really need to go looking for it immediately per se as junk will pretty much find it’s way to you. You can also farm junk items from killing enemies in random world encounters, so take a stroll in the Kodiak until something says hello to you.

Also, you can dismantle any weapons you gather for scrap which is one of the most common junk items in the game. However, before you go off and do that make sure you have one squad member with at least seven Weapon Modding and the Expert Disassembler perk. This is because with both of these combined you will get a 100% chance for more scrap when you dismantle weapons. This can also be further increased with more points put into the weapon modding skill.
That said, I highly suggest saving all of the junk you gather up from progressing and completing quests, to later be sold for one big payout. Also if you are not at the required level just yet to have a character with a level seven Barter skill just save your junk until you have one. Then once you have a sizeable treasure trove of junk, head on over to the Ranger HQ armory or any merchant. Next what you want to do is first sell your scrap one at a time until the Barter skill activates. This also applies to your other junk, so do it one at a time to further increase maximum profit.
It is also worth noting that prices for the items being sold with the Antiques perk are completely random. For example, in some instances, the items can sell for around $100 to the most extreme being items selling for 45k which happened to me in my playthrough. Then combined with the fact the Barter skill increases the base price of items you can potentially make hundreds of thousands of Colorado dollars with this method.
But before you go slamming your fist down on that sell junk button after hearing those numbers, it might be a good idea to make a quick save before you selling any junk items. After which if you don’t like the outcome just keep reloading until you get a more favorable price. Who knows maybe you will get lucky and get a higher price than what I got!
Then that’s everything you need to know on how to become the greatest junk salesman and how to make money in Wasteland 3.
