West Virginia Shocked Its Minimum Wage Can’t Keep Up With the Gas Prices: ‘Insane Many West Virginians Voted Against Their Best Interests’

Tough times

One of the most talked-about topics across the country nowadays is gas prices, and with good reason. We’ve seen them rise overnight to costs we never thought we’d have to pay. However, some states are particularly shocked, as it seems their minimum wage isn’t enough to keep up with the increasingly expensive gas prices. One of these states is West Virginia, where some residents just realized that their hourly earnings are too low compared to how much people have to pay for a gallon of gas.

The image comes from user Ynkers, who shared it on the West Virginia subreddit. Here, you can see that the gallon goes for $4.38, which isn’t as high as in other states yet, but it’s still pretty expensive for West Virginians.

While many already knew about the high costs, this image focused on comparing gas prices to the state’s minimum wage. According to the person who posted the picture, most jobs pay around $11 per hour, at least in Princeton. However, the Redditor mentions that with gas prices at their current level, the average wage will not be enough to cover those costs.

With the image out, several West Virginia Redditors and a few from outside the state echoed the OP’s thoughts, claiming this is a nationwide issue. Furthermore, many continued to say that the fault lies with those who voted for the current administration, as they are the ones who keep pushing these high gas prices.

West Virginians Blame Those Who Voted for the Current Administration

Several Redditors reacted to the OP’s image, and while many are still shocked by the gas costs, others believe that some voters are to blame for this situation.

“It’s insane that so many West Virginians voted against their own best interests.“

“People don’t change unless they suffer the consequences of their actions. So here we are, suffering, all together.“

While many blame voters, others are still sharing heartbreaking stories about how they are adapting to these new prices.

“It’s between $4.62 and $4.99, where I’m at in Wetzel County, got a brand new truck, I had to park and start driving my little Honda to work again.“

“$4.09 at the Walmart in Fairmont. When I first moved back here in 2015, I had a Prius. I miss the days of filling up my tank for $10 and driving for a couple of weeks.“

For now, many believe the gas situation will continue as is, and Americans across the country are preparing for the next sudden increase in gas prices.
