After a long five-year wait, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has finally graced Nintendo Switch owners with its presence. Unlike its predecessor, the open-world title bears more powers, dungeons, and even vehicles. That said, this increase in content means players can expect downloading the game to take up more than just a few gigabytes on their devices. Here’s what you need to know about the download and install size for Tears of the Kingdom.

How Big Is the Tears of the Kingdom Download Size?

As for how much space it takes up, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the biggest Switch games to date. According to the game’s eShop page, the install size for Tears of the Kingdom comes in at a whopping 16.3 GB. This does not exactly come as a surprise, considering how much Hyrule has to offer fans this time around.

With the Nintendo Switch carrying a total of 32GB in storage, this means the install size for Tears of the Kingdom will take up more than half of the console’s space. Thus, those relying strictly on memory may have to consider archiving a few games. But there is no need to worry too much. Saved data from all games will remain on the platform after archiving them.

To avoid deleting games and data altogether, it is recommended players use a microSD card to handle the Tears of the Kingdom download size. If you are on the hunt for one, MicroSD cards such as the Nintendo-branded SanDisk MicroSDXC provide up to 64 GB, 128GB, or 256GB of added storage. Keep in mind you cannot split a game’s download between your Switch and microSD card. So, 16GB cards are not suitable for this latest Legend of Zelda entry.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
