As you know, every expansion brings a new gimmick, and compared to seasonal ones, these ones are permanent and a bit more useful. For Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, players will get the Talisman, which adds several passive bonuses to their build and some that can boost some of their DPS or survival capabilities in tougher difficulties. Here, we will tell you how to unlock this new gimmick, how to use it, and how you can obtain the items that you need to make the most out of it.
How to Unlock the Talisman in Diablo 4
Like other expansion gimmicks, you’ll get the Talisman shortly after beginning the Lord of Hatred campaign in Diablo 4. We won’t spoil the exact moment because it is pretty big, but you’ll obtain this in less than an hour and just before sailing to Skovos, meaning that you’ll have this item ready for your new adventure.
Also, as we mentioned in another guide, if you’re a new player and want to start using this gimmick, you can start with the Lord of Hatred campaign state, but you’ll risk not experiencing the previous campaigns, so be mindful of that.
How to Use the Talisman

With the Talisman in your possession, it is time to learn how to use it, and in truth, it is extremely simple.
First, you’ll need to look out for Seals. These items go in the center of the Talisman and grant you passive stat bonuses, but most importantly: Charm Slots. Some Seals provide three Talisman Slots, while the rarest ones can give you even six Charm Slots, but that’s something you’ll get at higher difficulty levels.
Charm Slots are what make the whole thing work better, as these also provide some passive stat bonuses at first. However, once you start leveling up and acquiring better gear, you’ll start seeing Charm Sets, which give you an even bigger buff if you equip the whole set on your talisman. Here are some of the Charm Sets you can obtain in the game:
- Survival Set:
- 2 = +1,000 Armor and +100 to All Resistances
- 4 = +200 to All Stats
- Slaughter Set:
- 2 = +5% Damage Reduction and x10% Damage
- 4 = +10% Damage Reduction from Elites and x15% Damage to Elites
- Mastery Set:
- 2 = +2 to All Skills
- Dark Pact Set:
- 2 = Up to 40% chance to deal 1,500 Cold, Fire, or Lightning Damage.
- Practiced Technique Set:
- 2 = +5% Attack Speed and +15% Movement Speed
- 3 = +25% Gold Find and +50% Kill Experience (5% at level 70)
A couple of things to keep in mind are that you can’t equip two of the same items, even if they provide different stat bonuses, and, while obvious, you’ll need a complete set of 2, 3, or even four pieces to activate the set bonuses.
The truth is that this system is quite useful and not too hard to get into, which will be great for those looking for a new gimmick that isn’t too overwhelming. Also, you can dismantle any Charms and Seals you don’t need, so make sure to do that whenever you’re swapping them.
