One of the multiple Evolution Items required to evolve certain species of pocket monsters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the Sun Stone, a peculiar stone that is said to “burn as red as the evening sun.” This item is essential for evolving the Grass-type Petilil into the Grass- and Fighting-type Lilligant or the Grass-type Sunkern into the Grass-type Sunflora. With so many Evolution Items in the game, knowing where to find a particular resource can be quite challenging, especially when the world of Scarlet and Violet is quite vast for a Nintendo Switch title. Continue reading to learn where Trainers can find Sun Stones for their Grass-type Pokémon.
Finding Sun Stones in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
The first spot to find a single Sun Stone in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is a small ridge in West Province (Area One). While it is tricky to specify the exact location due to the lack of notable nearby landmarks, Trainers should be able to find this item while exploring the western trail leading northeastward to the desert region.

The Sun Stone location above is a guaranteed spawn for the Evolution Item in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, if Trainers want to evolve multiple Petilils, Sunkerns, or their Shiny variations, they will naturally require more Sun Stones for the evolutions. According to YouTube content creator MonkeyKingHero, players can farm Sun Stones and Moon Stones by searching for small glinting nodes within the Asado Desert. However, bear in mind that the drop rate for Evolution Items from these nodes is relatively low, yet the desert is still a great spot for farming other resources while also hunting for Sun Stones.
Another way to get Sun Stones in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is through a method discovered by Trainers at Attack of the Fanboy. This method involves completing the Artazon Gym Test, during which players are tasked with defeating 10 Sunflora, the evolved form of Sunkern. AOTF states that for every Sunflora subdued, Trainers will earn a single Sun Stone. Of course, this challenge is easier said than done, especially if players have yet to get the proper counters for the task. Nevertheless, it is an excellent way to obtain a reward of guaranteed Sun Stones.
