The House of Grief Location in Baldur’s Gate 3
(Updated on October 3, 2024 – updated links and format)
The House of Grief is located in the Overgrown Ruins, the northwestern edge of the Lower City. Cross the bridge next to Elerrathin’s house, turn left, go up the stairs and you will see the house on your right. The House of Grief is located at coordinates X: -264 Y: -11. You’ll know you’re there when you see a huge house with a wooden sign and stairs at the entrance.
The House of Grief is a dangerous dungeon filled with many enemies and traps. A piece of Shadowheart’s soul is trapped in the House of Grief and you need to free her in BG3. A cutscene will begin with the Mother Superior when you step inside. Put Shadowheart on the bench and let her continue the conversation. If you want, you can also have a conversation by sitting on the bench. However, since this is a part that affects Shadowheart’s storyline, it would be best for her to handle the dialogues.
Mother Superior is actually Viconia DeVir and she will give you a dilemma moment. Viconia will ask you to hand Shadowheart over to her so that there will be no problems. Here comes a big decision for you, as Shadowheart no longer wants to be with people who worship Shar and harm her. You can either defend Shadowheart and fight Viconia and her comrades or surrender Shadowheart to Viconia and let her down. Viconia is a tough boss, so you’ll have to get your hands dirty if you want to save Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3.

You can kill or spare Viconia before you beat her. This decision comes with two different consequences. If you choose to kill her, Minsc will approve this and you can loot Viconia. If you spare her, Jaheria will approve this and you will never see Viconia again. The decision is entirely up to you here.
