So, let’s protect our hard-earned work whether you’re on PC, Mac, or console.

[Updated May 27, 2024 – added information about console save files, backup, and transfers]
No matter what you decide to play Dave the Diver on, you can track down your save file location in seconds:
- PC: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\nexon\DAVE THE DIVER\SteamSData
- Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/nexon/DAVE THE DIVER/SteamSData
- PlayStation: Settings > Application Saved Data Management
- Nintendo: System Memory > Data Management
How To Create a Backup of Your Save File
If you’re playing Dave the Diver via Steam, the easiest way to back up your save file location is through the Cloud. You can do that in a few short steps:
- Open the Steam client and select from the menu Steam > Settings
- On the left side, click on Cloud
- Toggle on the “Enable Steam Cloud synchronization”
Now, your data should automatically back itself up. This way, you don’t have to worry if the local file is lost or corrupted.
The Cloud comes into play again for both PlayStation and the Switch. Like with Steam, you won’t have to handle your Dave the Diver save file location directly. Just enable Cloud services for the console. For PlayStation, make sure automatic uploads are enabled first. From there, you can do the following:
- PS4: Settings > Application Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Upload to Online Storage (find and select Dave the Diver from here)
- PS5: Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (choose either PS5 or PS4) > Upload or Delete from Console Storage > Upload to Cloud Storage (select Dave the Diver)
Meanwhile, Switch users can do this:
- Navigate to Dave the Diver and select either the “+” or “-” button
- Go to Save Data Cloud
- Select the User in question if there are multiple users
- Select Back Up Save Data
Manually Transfer Dave the Diver Save File Location
Sometimes, a transfer is inevitable. You had to get a new console or computer, or maybe you want to enjoy all the fun of Dave the Diver on a friend’s system without using the Cloud. The feature can even break sometimes, so it’s not 100% foolproof. Thankfully, you can transfer your Dave the Diver save file location without relying on the Cloud.
PC to PC or Mac to Mac:
- Go to your save file location to copy the files into a new folder and upload them to a USB
- On the computer you’re transferring to, turn off Cloud save:
- Steam library > right-click Dave the Diver > Properties > General > Keep Saves in Steam Cloud (turn off)
- Run Dave the Diver until you get through the opening and save the game
- Quit the game, navigate to the save file, and plug in the USB with the previous save files
- Paste the old save files into the folder with the new save files, choosing to overwrite everything
- Open the game and continue your old progress only our new computer
For PlayStation, you can only transfer via USB from PS4 to PS4 or from PS4 to PS5. Using the Cloud is the only way to move PS5 save data.
PS4 > PS4:
- Connect a USB
- Go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device (select Dave the Diver)
- Unplug USB and insert it into the PS4 you’re transferring to
- Go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data on USB Storage Device > Copy to System Storage (select Dave the Diver)
PS4 > PS5:
Follow the first two steps from PS4 > PS4 transfer. From there, do the following on the PS5:
- Connect the USB
- Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS4) > USB Drive > Copy to Console Storage (select Dave the Diver)
And that’s all it takes to move your file location elsewhere so you can play on a new system or computer without using the Cloud. But if you can, the Cloud is an easy way to get peace of mind if something happens with your local save. Be sure to keep a backup handy though when transferring as corruption can happen then too.
Dave the Diver is available for PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
