Below Deck fans have slammed Captain Sandy Yawn’s leadership qualities. For the past 10 seasons, Captain Lee Rosbach has led the crew on St. David in the Bravo hit series Below Deck. However, this season saw Captain Sandy Yawn step in for Lee as he had to leave the show to deal with some health issues. Unfortunately, it has not been a smooth journey for Sandy as she tries to lead the crew aboard St. David. Already she has had to fire Camille Lamb earlier in the season after several infractions, including a terrible fight with fellow cast mate Alissa Humber.
The decision led to a social media back and forth between Captain Sandy and Captain Lee — with the latter left disappointed by Sandy’s failure to inform him before firing Camille. However, Captain Sandy’s issues with the original Below Deck season 10 cast continued with another heated confrontation with chief stew Fraser Olender. In a sneak peek of Below Deck’s February 13 episode, fans watched Sandy slamming Fraser for slacking on the job and telling him to “stop talking” when he attempts to defend his team, including Alissa.
During a confessional, Sandy remained bullish about her approach with Fraser and maintained she had to lay down the law aboard St. David. She went on to lament the behavior of some of the crew members, especially Alissa and Fraser, who she claimed have no regard for authority.
Fans Feel Captain Sandy Should Have Gone To Fraser Privately
Fraser felt frustrated by the treatment he got from Captain Sandy, and he made this known while venting to Alissa. Fraser claimed he would not allow anyone to silence him and that Sandy could fire him if she liked because he didn’t care. Viewers felt displeased with how Sandy handled the situation with Fraser and have been giving their thoughts on it since the preview dropped. Many of them took to Reddit to join a conversation started by u/LunaLoTunaLi.
Most of the fans criticized Sandy’s handling of the issue. While many agreed she had valid reasons to reprimand Fraser, they felt she would have gotten better results if she had talked to him privately rather than calling him out in front of other department heads.
Another group of fans accused Sandy of having double standards while citing the disparity in how she handled Camille and her approach with Fraser. One particular user explained:
“It’s interesting how she gave Camille multiple chances, but with Fraser she immediately went to criticize him. She has valid points, but she should have brought them up with a different tone.“
Another answered:
“Yawn has certainly been hanging around Camille since then because someone posted the photos here.”
Fans Feel Captain Sandy Hasn’t Shown Enough Leadership Qualities
Many viewers queried Captain Sandy’s leadership qualities and accused her of having favorites. The users claimed she had not shown the same patience and willingness to coach Fraser as she did with Camille. The viewers felt this side of her leadership was even more crucial for Fraser because it was his first experience as a chief stew. Therefore, most fans expected that it would take some time for him to get used to the role.
One particular fan vented:
“Fraser is a first-time manager so of course, he isn’t perfect. He needs leadership/support from Sandy and not statements like “get the interior in line.” It’s gross how she’s using Rachel to spy on him rather than helping him.”
Other fans expressed their disdain for how Sandy seemingly prefers to call out Fraser publicly and undermine him rather than have a sit down with him. The user also found it particularly disturbing that Sandy would set Rachel up to spy on Fraser. Sandy has strong qualities that make her an exceptional Captain. However, that does not take away some of her questionable actions that threaten to derail all the excellent work she has done on the show.
