Host, Jenna Bush Hager took a moment to reflect on the mindblowing TV moment during Tuesday’s episode of Today With Jenna & Friends. Putting Willie Geist on the hot seat as he guest-hosted the show alongside her, the 43-year-old reminisced on the frenzy Heather McMahan’s admission stirred across the internet, putting him on par with actor Pedro Pascal. She quipped,
“You really lit the internet on fire last week. You may not know this, but Pedro Pascal is known as the internet’s boyfriend.”
Willie Geist Labeled ‘Morning TV’s Boyfriend’
Bush Hager proceeded to shower praise on Pascal’s appearance and other great qualities that made him a Hollywood sensation. She then announced that the team decided to peg Willie Geist as “morning TV’s boyfriend.” Visibly flustered, the guest host reacted to his newest title, saying,
“Oh no. Ugh, makes me very uncomfortable.”
Later in the episode, the TV personality and author continued to quizz Geist about his new title, asking how he felt about taking on the position. In response, Willie Geist admitted he had no idea what “morning TV’s boyfriend” entails. Regardless, he felt honored to sail the same boat as Pedro Pascal. He divulged,
“I don’t even quite know what it means to be morning TV’s boyfriend. I am on morning TV a lot, very early in the morning, later in the morning, this case, Sundays. I’m on six to noon most days, so I guess I do occupy the morning. I guess it’s an honor to be in the company of Pedro Pascal if that’s what it means.”
Bush Hager chided Geist further, recounting how she noticed McMahan acting all shy around him. The host admitted that she perceived McMahan as “one of the wildest, most outgoing humans,” which made her reaction more unbelievable. Willie Geist then keyed into the viral moment, acknowledging that indeed Heather McMahan “was quiet around him.” Geist admitted, albeit jokingly, that he took the initiative to ask McMahan if they were an item.
Geist and McMahan’s Viral Dressing Room Moment Shakes Up the Internet
In the clip from their now-viral behind-the-scenes moment, Geist jokingly asked McMahan if they were an item, to which she responded “Yeah, we kind of are.” On Bush Hager’s prompt, Geist admitted that his wife, Christina, seemed on board with him being an item with his fellow Today host as his wife loves McMahan. McMahan then chimed in, saying that her husband, Jeff, also bought the idea, and would rather have Geist as her work crush than anyone else. Interestingly, several viewers seemed onboard with the idea as well, voicing their support via wild comments which Bush Hager read out on the dramatic Tuesday episode.
The playful moment comes as viewers continue anticipating the unveiling of the official co-host of Today after Hoda Kotb recently quit the position. Kotb, who co-hosted the show for two decades alongside Bush Hager, admitted this week that she too, like tons of viewers was “dying to find out” the identity of her replacement. Since leaving the show, Jenna has held the fort on screen with help from random guest stars trying to fill Kotb’s shoes. Tuesday’s episode had Willie Geist filling in as a guest host, with his new title of “Morning TV’s boyfriend” a testament of his impactful stint. Regina Hall is set to take over the position of guest host from March 5 to March 7, leaving the “hosting” future of Today With Jenna & Friends still shrouded in uncertainty.
