A woman visited her doctor’s office in Maine for a pap smear. She was told to undress, but when she noticed a camera in the room, she refused. What followed was repeated requests to take her clothes off, with many calling the whole incident illegal.
The story was shared by Jessica, also known as rodsandroots. According to her, she went to her regular appointment at her doctor’s office for a Pap smear. Once inside the room, however, she discovered a “regular security-type camera” and every tool needed for her screening procedure.
A nurse took Jessica’s vitals and addressed all her concerns. Then the nurse got up to leave the room and told the Maine woman to undress for a Pap smear. Jessica, however, was not having any of it.
“I am not comfortable getting undressed in a room with a camera,” she told the nurse.
The nurse, however, very quickly dismissed her concerns, telling Jessica that the camera was off. She insisted she was unwilling to undress, regardless of whether the camera was on. The nurse then explained that the camera was only being used “for some type of educational program.”
Jessica, for the third time, said she was still uncomfortable with the camera in the room, even though the nurse had assured her it was off and disconnected. The nurse even argued that the camera was only pointing at the computer, not at the exam table, but this didn’t soothe Jessica either, as she explained that this was not the case at all.
“There couldn’t be any more of a clear shot of [female private parts] if you tried,” the Maine woman added.
Nurse Barges In, Reactions
She finally agreed, and the nurse left the room. Jessica, contemplating what to do next, decided to take a picture of the camera inside the room.
Just as she unlocked her phone, however, the nurse “barged back into the room without knocking,” even though she had explicitly told her to get undressed. Many theorize that the camera was on after all, and they wanted to prevent Jessica from taking the photo.
The nurse then told Jessica that she could move her to another room.
Users, while applauding Jessica for standing her ground, encouraged her to file a police report.
One person said, “Please inform the police. This is highly illegal, omg… so glad you stood ur ground.” Another one wrote, “Please report this to the police and state medical board ASAP.” A third one added, “We need to start normalizing filing formal complaints against nurses for wrongdoing.”
By the looks of it, this unnamed Maine doctor’s office is in big trouble.
