A woman was on vacation in Georgia with her mom when she saw something that alarmed her. She watched as ICE agents were chasing multiple people down the street. This woman wasn’t about to stand idly by and do nothing. She not only called them out, but also warned others about ICE in the area.
Emmy (@spikespiegel.luvr) says she was vacationing with her mom in Atlanta when she witnessed something life-altering. They were sitting in their vehicle at a grocery store when she heard a commotion. In a “sickening” turn of events, she said ICE agents were chasing multiple Hispanic people down a nearby street. Emmy exited the vehicle, hearing individuals screaming as they were being chased.
As Emmy runs closer to the commotion, she yells, “Pieces of [expletive]!” and lets her mom know she’s okay. She records an officer walking on the other side of the parking lot as the others continue chasing after the individuals.
Emmy says that she and her mom warned everybody in the area to either 1. Stay inside the grocery store or 2. Go home and stay in their houses. She warned people that ICE agents were waiting right around the corner to arrest immigrants. Emmy also said that her mother helped a lady and her child get home safely to their house. Afterward, the pair warned everybody in that neighborhood that ICE was lurking in the Atlanta area.
Emmy says that more people should be doing something about “protecting” their community and showing them trust. She stated, “It’s sick, twisted, and horrendously wrong. Never in my life have I ever witnessed this happen, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.”
Since posting, hundreds of commenters have shared their reactions on Emmy’s video. The reactions are greatly varied, with some supporting Emmy and others speaking out against her. One commenter shared, “If only everyone was willing to speak up and do something about it!” However, another stated, “Omg! We have laws and if you break them you are held accountable!?!? That’s crazy!!”
Other commenters brought up other issues related to this one that they felt were worth mentioning. As one asked, “Why do people care more about illegal immigrants than veterans that aren’t getting the care/attention they need?” Many continue to share their opinions from both sides, dividing a lot of commenters but bringing attention to important issues nonetheless.
