Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and NetEase Games have announced the creation of a new development studio, aptly named Nagoshi Studio. Nagoshi will serve as the CEO and representative director of the Tokyo-based studio.
Toshihiro Nagoshi announced his departure from SEGA in February of last year. There were rumors last summer about Nagoshi teaming with NetEase, and it appears those rumors were true.
About Nagoshi Studio
Nagoshi Studio will have full authority to manage and create the kinds of games they are passionate about. To help achieve this, Nagoshi will be joined by a crew of veteran developers. Many of them also worked at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio on the Yakuza series. The new team will focus on creating high-quality console titles for the global market.
With that in mind, Nagoshi and NetEase believe they know what people want from their entertainment. The following quote from the official press release illustrates this.
People see their dreams in entertainment; they look to it to give them hope in their everyday life, to soothe them in difficult times, and to add excitement in happy times. People look to entertainment to provide the spark for all kinds of events in their life.
About NetEase Games

They also partner with industry leaders such as Blizzard Entertainment, Mojang AB, and other global game developers to operate some of China’s most popular international online games.
We are not likely to see any announcements from the Yakuza creator or Nagoshi Studio for some time. Not only are there no projects announced, but there are also many job openings posted. There are over 20 positions available to apply for, from Engine Programmer to Product Manager and almost everything in between. In any case, fans of Nagoshi and his team’s previous work should be very excited for the future.
