Fans of Yellowstone may be upset at the recent news that Taylor Sheridan’s flagship series will be ending with season 5, but they can rest assured that Paramount isn’t done with the franchise just yet as 1883 gets its moment in the spotlight. Paramount Network has just announced that Yellowstone‘s lesser-known prequel series will be aired as part of a special broadcast event this June, featuring the series’ entire single-season run along with some new, extra content.
First premiering on Paramount+ in 2021, 1883 follows the Dutton family as they leave their home in Tennessee and travel west, first stopping in Fort Worth, TX, before joining a wagon train to make the infamously dangerous trek to Oregon, eventually settling in Paradise Valley, Montana to become the founders of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch that would become the main focus of 1923 and Yellowstone. The official series logline describes it as “a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana.”
‘1883’ Gets Special Broadcast Event on Paramount Network
1883 would run for ten episodes and starred Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann, Eric Nelsen, James Landry Hebert, and Noah Le Gros. Due to its limited run, 1883 is one of the least-known installments in the Yellowstone franchise, but the series is getting its fifteen minutes of fame as it moves from Paramount+ to Paramount Network this summer, the subject of a special broadcast event that’s scheduled to begin June 18th at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The broadcast will include the entire season of 1883 along with an “extended featurette” at the end of each episode, though the content of these featurettes is unclear.
1883 is produced by Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari for MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studio, and Bosque Ranch Productions.
