Yesteryear, the upcoming thriller movie centered around the world-changing events of 2020, has officially added six new names to its cast list. Jesse Garcia, Joanna Cassidy, Timothy V. Murphy, Tiffany Chu, Yusuke Ogasawara, Crystal Echohawk, and Chester Gregory will be joining the upcoming movie, which puts a mismatched band of characters through the pandemic, BLM movement, and several of the other events that rocked the world during the 2020s.
Born from the minds of Adam VillaSeñor and star Q’orianka Kilcher, Yesteryear centers around the story of Alma Deswood (Kilcher), an actress down on her luck who struggles under the oppressive weight of the COVID-19 pandemic and Black Lives Matter movement. According to Deadline, Yesteryear will follow Alma as she “mentally unravels” during the quarantine and “is forced to navigate complex relationships, hallucinatory nightmares, and painful memories taking her on a journey of introspection that twists the fabric of her reality.”
Along with Q’orianka Kilcher, the cast for Yesteryear will also include Scott Haze, Angela Sarafyan, Idara Victor, Wes Studi, Nick Cassavetes, Peter Facinelli, Tanaya Beatty, Grant Roberts, Zyana Perry, Tyler Wood, and Cody Vaughan.
Timothy V. Murphy, Joanna Cassidy & More Join ‘Yesteryear’
With Yesteryear having recently wrapped production, the cast has been rounded out with six names, including The Lone Ranger‘s Timothy V. Murphy and Blade Runner‘s Joanna Cassidy.
Jesse Garcia (The Avengers) and Chester Gregory (Grand Theft Auto IV) will star as Alma’s neighbors who run a conspiracy podcast called Revolutionary Radio, while Joanna Cassidy (NCIS: New Orleans) will play Alma’s therapist. Timothy V. Murphy (The Lone Ranger, National Treasure: Book of Secrets) will play a “strange man” who Alma has a “violent yet playful encounter” with, though it’s not entirely clear what that means. Tiffany Chu (Artificial) will star as Olivia, who convinces Alma to create an OnlyFans account, while Crystal Echohawk – founder of the Native American social justice organization IllumiNative – will play Alma’s mother, who only shows up in flashbacks.
Regarding the completion of the movie Yesteryear, VillaSeñor and Kilcher called the film “an enthralling time capsule” and say that it has a “unique and psychological approach inspired by anime.”
“Our project strikes the balance between commercial appeal with artistic flair. We are incredibly grateful to our exceptional cast and crew whose contributions brought this extraordinary project to life.”
Yesteryear is produced by Phantom House Pictures and iQ Films, with Adam VillaSeñor serving as the film’s director in addition to acting as an executive producer. Andrew Kawczynski (Top Gun: Maverick) will compose the music for the film, with Jeff Pitts (The Boys) acting as sound designer.
