Mortal Kombat is a series that has always introduced some interesting Guest Characters to the franchise. The gory fighting game often pulls big-name characters from movies, comic books, and other video game franchises. With the recent announcement of the upcoming Mortal Kombat One Guest Characters at the San Diego Comic-Con, the hype for the series is at an all-time high. Choosing Guest Characters like Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker for Mortal Kombat One shows that NetherRealm knows its fan base well. This event goes to show that Mortal Kombat has always been picking great characters to add to the series. Here are our picks for the top 10 best Mortal Kombat Guest Characters of all time.
10. The Joker
The Joker felt like an obvious addition to Mortal Kombat. Being in many of the series’ other games, it seemed only a matter of time before he would join the popular, gore-filled fighter. However, after so many iterations of the Joker, despite having a great move set, it doesn’t bring the same levels of hype as other characters on this list.
9. Leatherface
Next up, we have Leatherface from the horror movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Coming in as a Guest Character in Mortal Kombat X Leatherface is great to see, but sadly not one of the best design-wise. However, the references to the movies that the Leatherface has and some cool fatalities help the character carve out a niche in the series.
8. Predator
Having the Predator as a Guest Character in Mortal Kombat is one of the best things for fans of both series. Between his gadgets and traps, the brutal hunter’s gameplay is extremely flashy and fun. Overall, the character feels right at home in the franchise, though honestly, it can feel and look a bit similar to some of Mortal Kombat’s high-tech robotic characters.
7. Freddy Krueger
Adding horror movie slashers as Guest Characters to Mortal Kombat was one of the best moves NetherRealm could make, and Freddy Krueger was there to start it all off. There were many things that could use some polish with the character, especially things like incorporating more references into his kit. However, his awesome fatalities help make up for this, earning him the number-seven spot on this list.
6. Jason Voorhees
Of course, after adding other famous slashers, Jason was an obvious choice for Mortal Kombat. As far as Guest Characters go, Jason brought some of the best and most impactful attacks to Mortal Kombat. Scooping up enemies into a vicious bear hug will always be satisfying. Also, Jason’s unique unstoppable mechanic makes the character feel powerful, like in his movies.
5. Kratos
Kratos from the God of War franchise is one of the best Mortal Kombat Guest Characters and an amazing addition to the game. Mechanically, Kratos feels like a perfect port from God of War to fighting games. Seeing quick time events during some of his moves ties the character together, making him a blast to play.
4. The Terminator
The Terminator is another classic movie Guest Character who makes one of the best jumps from the screen to Mortal Kombat. The character boasts some amazingly impactful gameplay that is highly fitting of the Terminator movies. Plus, his Time Sphere fatality is one of our favorites of Mortal Kombat 11.
3. Robocop
Robocop represents all the best things a Guest Character can have in Mortal Kombat. Between his fitting gameplay, fantastic voice lines, cool fatalities, and perfect animations, Robocop is great to play in Mortal Kombat 11. Additionally, seeing Peter Weller reprise his role as Robocop is the perfect cherry on top.
2. Xenomorph
The Xenomorph’s addition to Mortal Kombat X was a huge surprise, albeit a pleasant one. Firstly, all three of its styles in MK X feel great, and each adds a unique element to the character. The Alien’s win screen and fatalities are exceptional references to the classic movies. Furthermore, they are some of the most brutal and creepiest of the series.
Honorable Mentions
For our honorable mentions of the best Mortal Kombat Guest Characters, we have Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker from the new Mortal Kombat One trailer. Although we haven’t seen them in action yet, just the choices alone make them worthy of mentioning. Hopefully, when we see their gameplay in the future of Mortal Kombat One, it will match the hype and legacy of Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker.
1. Spawn
Finally, our pick for the best Mortal Kombat Guest Character would have to be Spawn. Ever since Injustice, I and many others wanted Spawn’s inclusion in the series. In Mortal Kombat 11, we see that dream become a reality. Between fun gameplay and creative finishers, Spawn is a great choice, even for those who aren’t a fan of the character.
